DOC: BULLS MUFFED EDDY DEAL

October 12, 2005 -- A Los Angeles heart specialist who tested Eddy Curry in August on behalf of the Bulls believes Chicago GM John Paxson blew it by giving up on the 6-11 phenom center for health concerns.

Speaking for the first time since last week's blockbuster, Dr. David Cannom told The Post, "I was one of those who thought he was physically fit to play basketball. All signs pointed to a cut-and-dried case."

Knicks doctor Lisa Callahan consulted with Cannom six weeks ago during Isiah Thomas' research. Cannom ruled out Curry having hypertrophic cardiomyopathy — the type of heart arrhythmia that killed Reggie Lewis and Hank Gathers.

"You look at four things: family history, which he had none, blackout spells, rapid rhythm at the bottom of the heart and abnormal echo," Cannom said. "He was 0 for 4."

Cannom said Curry's arrhythmia in March Charlotte was likely due to a low magnesium count. "He's been monitored until he's blue in the face and no other arrythmia turned up," Cannom said.

The Bulls claimed they traded him because Curry refused a DNA test.

I always blame the owner who has final say on these things. A GM hates to lose a player, but owner is the heart, soul, and in this case the moral voice of the team.

To our benefit this whole thing got way out of hand and I think both sides were to blame. Curry's camp took it public and Pax and Co. took it personal.

Is curry worth the max? Not yet! And all chicago wanted was to pay market value and match any offers. Why pay max unless atlanta came up with it? I think when it became known Uncle Isiah was waiting with money, and the DNA line was drawn (big mistake) then Pax lost his leverage.

Chandler got fair market value but had to wait. he wanted max but got no offers from anyone. In his case the Bulls did ok by over bidding yourself.

In the knicks case, one must over pay a Craw or Curry cuz you don't got leverage to do a deal unless you do so.

If I am a bull fan I am pissed! Of course eddies health and contributions will ultimatly determine who got the best deal. And non of our picks turn into someone like AMare or Kobe!

I've been saying this to anyone who would listen. John Paxson and Da bulls tried to pull the wool over Eddy Curry's eyes. I feel they already knew they weren't going to the finals last year and shut Eddy down to start the negotiations early. They wanted to lowball him so they could have enough money for Ben gordon, Kirk Hinrich and Luol Deng. Paxson knew he made a big mistake that's why he was so mad at the press conference. Now the bulls will look like the knicks from last year and the Knicks will be running over the east with two 7-feet beast.

They were morally trying to low ball him. What he had was a result of coffee and supplements.

Isiah came off on this deal. I am glad he stuck to his guns about getting Eddy Curry.
Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!
