I am not surprised at all. I seriously wish he'd just stop dragging this out and retire already. If he couldn't come back before, it's going to be twice as difficult under LB, and the knees are hurting AGAIN already??? Goodness friggin gracious.

If Allan shuts it down for good, it would benefit our cap situation.
Take one for the team, Allan! Hang 'em up!
Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

It can happen! So far, this is unfolding just as I described it to you before- that training camp will make or break Allan Houston. He couldn't get thru it without the knees flaring up again. He's done.

didn't Patrick basically play with sore knees for most of his career?

I don't see this as a definitive that he will retire, but its not looking good. He's simply got to get to a point where he can accept the discomfort.

70 games in the last 2 years, now this? Patrick never sat out anywhere near that long over his knees. When he did play, he brought alot more to the table than a jumpshot. I'll pass on Allan's arthritic jumpshot, and be content with that contract coming off the Knicks' books. The roster spot wouldn't hurt either.

I'm just saying Allan is a bit of a wuss for thinking he can't play with pain. It would be nice for his contract to come off the books- but I'm sure Isiah hopes he can make it so he can trade his expiring deal!

A big man with knee problems is totally different than a guard with knee problems.

Totally different ball game.

Franco, I am in the same position as Allan Houston. I promise you that he is in more pain daily than you seem to think. In fact, he has played with pain for years and that is ultimately his demise.

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!

like I said with the Antonio Davis thing: this was Zeke's plan from the beginning.

He knew Allan didn't have it in him to play another season, but he showed him the respect of not using the "Allan Houston Rule" on him and letting him give it one last try in training camp. Now Allan can retire on his terms rather than go out as an embarassment under some CBA rule.

"It's just that you've got to give it time. I haven't really been doing it. Once you're going at full speed, your body has to respond to it. You have to let it do it at its own pace." Allan Houston

Allan ain't going nowhere i don't think.. He'll be part of this team for the 2005 -06 season, playing.

Isiah on the Mike Kay show basically said Houston should retire. He would've loved to use the Allan Houston rule on Allan Houston. It didnt work because Allan Houston is friends with Dolan who decided against cutting Houston. Isiah doesnt like Allan Houston or include him in future plan. Proof: he brought in 2 shooting guards over the last 2 years.
Dolan played a bigger role in the decision to keep Allan Houston.

I guess it depends on how materialistic you are. I'd rather make enough money to simply live comfortably and be healthy and pain free than have more money than I knew what to do with, not be able to play sports, and be in constant pain. I don't need 12 Mercedes, 44 BMWs, and 30 different houses to be happy. That's just me. Maybe the extra money makes some people more happy than they'd be without it, but I doubt it.

Actually I'm more less thinking about the medical treatment money can buy. I'm almost sure he will not be living in pain once he decides to retire.

I almost want to say he should play in pain just to justify that contract, but i guess i would sound evil.

The one question i always wondered was why he never re-did his contract just so we could have brought in help, like kg, shaq, hakim, D Robbison, ect.

Thats painful to understand.

Sorry KNicks1248, you're wrong. There are treatments to ease this pain, (For instance I am having a knee cartilage transplant on Friday.) but they are still experimental. Barring a miracle, he will live in pain for the rest of his life if he does not have a another procedure done, and even then there are no guarantees at all.
