You're right about Thomas.

What's sometimes hard to comprehend is how much

a player's "work ethic" affects his development.

I'd guess that if we knew the truth about how little actual "work"

These million-dollar babies put in,

we'd vomit.

Then there are the Karl Malones and the Jerry Rices

Who dedicate themselves to professional athleticism

And stretch what would have been an 8 year career

into two decades of peak perfomance.

TT will NEVER work any harder.

TT will never be any better.

He's peaked.

But then there's the other component: innate ability.

Sweets is no Elton Brand.

In his few years in the league he's NEVER dominated a game.

His career high is 20ppg. Once.

He's never got consistant minutes

Because his skills never demanded those minutes.

And if you don't think being lighter than 275lbs at "6-foot-eight"

wouldn't have helped his game

Then we're definitely at a philosophical impasse.

I'd be surprsied if he ever got his career average over 10ppg.

Not to say he won't be a solid pro,

But with our payroll, we need "studs."

I'm not saying Sweets is as good as Brand, but he could be a good player, we just don't have sufficient evidence to say one way or the other. I still think with his age/skill set that the chances are still in his favor for a positive outcome.

Just to be clear I never said we shouldn't have traded Sweetney. I think the Curry trade was exactly what we needed to do. I rate Curry better than Sweetney, especially in terms of potential, what the Knicks need, and what options will be out there in the future. I just think Sweetney has good potential still. There have been plenty of players who didn't do JACK for years before they got the minutes, like Jermaine O'Neal. Now he was younger than Sweets, but was around the same age as he when he broke out with the Pacers. If Sweetney doesn't get minutes and show some real improvement this year, than I may lower expectations. But we're not there yet.
