Now that we're set for the season...who should we target for the deadline and next summer?

Now of course we haven't even started the 05-06 season yet. Nevertheless it doesn't hurt to start talking about it now. I recall myself and others starting long threads last year discussing the possibility of getting Curry.

LB has a personal relationship with Antonio Davis so I understand his position about letting him get back to his life. I can also understand Isiah's position about releasing Davis in that he must channel all energies towards making this team better. Davis' contract is much too valuable to just let go away...and assist the Bulls at the same time. I totally disagree with any boneheads that suggest Davis "be a man" in resisting coming to NYC. The fact is that this guy has a very ill Mother in-law and he's probably the main cog in his family "man of the family". Those that speak different to that have not a clue as to what they're talking about.

So having said that, imo our main deadline and/or off season target should be: Ben Wallace. Although the Pistons organization will not want to do that i'm guessing Ben wouldn't mind hooking back up with LB. Chances of it happening: 1%.....but, no more unlikely that Curry coming to us or god forbid, Garnett

Dirk??...Kobe?? lol fish i dont want dirk but i'd trade crawford and Q for Kobe without hesitation. Also why dirk? he's a whiner and plays no D and the suns exposed him in the playoffs.
Ben might come to NY...he's 31 yrs old and i dont think he'd command a large salary, the mid level might be good enough to get him here and he'd be reunited with Brown...If possible i wonder if we can get our hands on Chris Wilcox, he's still relatively young

I want to see how fast the young kids develop before trying to figure out what core piece is missing.

I was actually thinking about Ben too. If things work well for the Knicks and it looks after this year like Ben would be the missing piece, I could see him possibly signing for a $30 mil MLE deal.

I think our goal should be:
Marbury
Kobe
Dirk
Brand
Curry

I think KG isnt available... cmon, lets be a little realistic here. There's only so many expiring contracts to go around

It's not about being full of ourselves this morning but more about realizing that we're on more solid footing. In other words we have more leverage (as John Boy found out the other day).

An accurate example would be the home buying process in NYC. Prior to buying it's a hell of a lot of work to get a mortgage and even more difficult to find someone willing to sell for an earthling like price (i.e. Isiah when he first got here - Eisley, Spoon). However, once you get one home (Marbury, Crawford)...despite all of it's problems (vaunted 33 win season + MoT, Tiny Tim trades (1st one) ) it's much easier to get a second home because of that equity (Ariza & the other youngins). Because of that equity it allows you to cash in when the market is more favorable (LB....Curry for Sweetney + Tiny Tim (second trade). As my Uncle used to say: Buy when the market is low". Of course that's not possible all the time (Isiah after Layden) so you have buy a little high (J.J.). That's where my father's thinking steps in when he says: "one man's junk is another's treasure" ( again James...who's now looking like gold as backup to Curry).

Now we just need the market to rise for us (i.e. all our vaunted moves hopefully translating into wins)

Still wish we could somehow get Sweetney back

I'm not realistically interested in KG because we'd likely have to gut the whole team to get him which is pointless. Plus Minn don't have Babcock as GM (btw, would have loved to get VC).

No one can concretely say how much Ben would cost. Nevertheless, there's no one that can deny that there aren't two players in the league that could give us what only he could at the 4. Not even two. Imagine that dude with the fro along with Curry at the 5 and Q at the 3. That frontline could bang with any frontline out there...and win.

He's the big target in my book.

I hope you guys are just joking with some of these OUTRAGEOUS posts. Dirk? Kobe? Wallace for the MLE? KG? I wish any of these would happen but you guys are dreaming!!!!!!! I must've sipped one of your kool-aids to think we have a shot at KG with some trades, but I doubt even that one. I'm as passionate a Knicks fan as all of you guys but let's look at the team we have and be excited or that, not these unrealistic teams ya'll are b.s.ing about.

Fishmike, when we traded away Howard Eisley for Kevin Garnett, our dreams of landing the Big Ticket faded into Bolivian (memories). I have never been the same ever since we got rid of Eisley. Never.
