1. Miami Heat
2. Indiana Pacers
3. Detroit Pistons
4. Cleveland Cavaliers
5. New Jersey Nets
6. Chicago Bulls
7. Philadelphia 76ers
8. New York Knicks - Larry Brown will make this team better defensively, and if Eddy Curry is healthy, they're really going to improve offensively. The Knicks are suddenly very interesting.
9. Milwaukee Bucks
10. Washington Wizards
11. Boston Celtics
12. Toronto Raptors
13. Orlando Magic
14. Atlanta Hawks
15. Charlotte Bobcats

I would actually put the Knicks 4. I think there may be a bit of a learning curve that will hurt us at times, but we have

SIZE: Frye 6'11, Curry 6'11, JJ 7'1, AD 6'9
MUSCLE and HUSLTLE: AD, Rose, Q, Ariza, Lee
SKILL/PLAYMAKERS: Marbury, JC, Nate
FIREPOWER: Marbury, JC, Curry, Q

If this group can learn to play as a team and just be decent on defense we will be very good. Everyone knows I like Sweetney but dumping a Fugazy like TT, adding a tough guy like AD and having a great scoring post center like Curry completely changes the complexity of this team. The only way I can see us lower is because it takes some time to play well together. Heck, it took the 99 finals team 40 plus games to get it right. When this team starts to click NOBODY will want to play them. There's size, depth, and a lot of firepower.

That's an interesting way to break it down. I'd add a couple of thoughts. We could be a real good team if Curry and JJ add themselves to the MUSCLE and HUSTLE category. And if Nate and Reezy make it to FIREPOWER.

I think preseason with no games played yet it is fair to say we are 8th and could get much better!

To do this the right way, there will be some pain and sacrifice. The talent is there, but Larry will be patient and get these guys to do it right from the get go, even if it means losing a few extra games!

It ain't how we start, its how we finish!

I am more excited by the prospect of the trades and new players and coach this year, but it could be a very hard test between coach and players:

- Curry and James are almost inept at D
- Marb could not take to Brown's stytle at point. And does he play some D?
- Who starts at PG? Marb or Craw?
- Can Craw also become a PG and a defender and refrain from being a chucker?

Realistically, I see some of the young guys playing and practicing the way Brown like: hard, passing, moving, D'ing up. Frye, Lee, Ariza, Nate. Thrown in AD, Rose, and Penny (if healthy) to that list.

This may be a year where the coach just breaks the players down for learning purposes and not wins.

there is NO EEKING into the playoffs. we are a legitimate playoff team. we are a legitimate threat to win our division.

indy, det, and mia have to be the top 3.

then you have us, cle, and nj.

i like philly but i can't see them winning more than us.

where we will hurt people is the 2nd and end of the 3rd to the beginning of the 4th quarter. why you ask? b/c of our depth. i can't see many teams in the east deeper than us and that's where we'll hurt them.

the buzz word for the team now...STABILITY

let these guys grow this year under LB. no more crazy trades. maybe a tweak here and there but i don't think any of the top 8-10 guys should be moved. let's give them ball and see if they can run with it.

I agree with you here, but I gotta think that AD and/or Penny are going at the trade deadline, and AD first, if he shows any kind of good Big man play for a 37 year old. He will solidfy the PF/C position for the knicks for the first half of the season, but man, what a chip to have at the trade deadline. I gotta think that teams like Dallas, Indiana, Cavs, PHO would line up some nice picks or young players for a 1 shot deal with this guy.

on paper, this is a deep team. But its a miss mash of players, most of whom have flaws in their game. Its Frankenknicks right now and until the season starts, they have yet to prove they can win.

Last year, lots said- the knicks are a shoe in to win the atlantic.

Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.

I won't be fooled.

This team should be able to compete for the 8th position, but if they don't, I won't be surprised and I'll be content if its a growing experience for the squad as a whole...

I dont think this team is a mishmash of players. I think its well setup actually. Players are flawed but the lineup I am looking at: Steph, Q, Ariza, Frye, Curry is pretty good. Steph and Q arent great defenders but Ariza is pretty good. Curry doesnt block shots but Frye does. I dont know where the rebounding will come from but off the bench, we can replace anyone on the starting lineup. A lot of people are saying that its just a bunch of players thrown together but I dont see it. Like you said, its deep and I really dont think its a mishmash.

Frankenmash! LOL!

Its a all coming together. Isiahs 120 million dollar rebuild. In less than two years we incrased payroll 50%!

The monster mash! Im not ready to put us in the top 5 in the east, but we should make the playoffs, be interesting to watch what and how larry does this, and have some fun times. ANd sure there will be bad nites to boot!

Since nobody cares about money, im not either, so I like this young team and its potential.

Barring KG miricle, Its gonna take 3 years to get it together.

This year we make playoffs, next year we break into the east top 4, say go to conf. finals, then after that we are top 4 in the league and who knows. Sounds even ambitous for the next 3 years given we have one practice under their belts and not a game played.

Fans on websites sure do sound over optamistic! So do we!

I don't think it's unreasonable to suspect that Cleveland and NJ will be better than us this season. I think we'll be fighting it out with Chicago and Philly (and maybe Washington and Milwaukee) for one of the lower seeds, and could fall anywhere from 6 to 8. Cracking top 5 will be tougher though, and while it's within the realm of possibility, I wouldn't say it's the result we should expect at the outset.

I see us coming in at either the fourth of fifth spot for the Playoffs this year. The main reason for the huge boost in imporovement will be Larry Brown, the 2005-06 Coach of the Year (and I am predicting that one, too).
Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

How can people keep ranking these guys so low? We will be much better than Chicago and Philly just off of brute strength our guys are bigger than their guys. Now that I think about it who will New Jersey use to beat Eddy Curry, Jerome James, Antonio Davis and Malik Rose them are some of the biggest and strongest guys in the league. Is Marc Jackson really the answer for the Knicks monsters?

This is a very good point. I think that having such a new team and new coach will actually help chemistry wise. At the very least its a new beginning. But because we have a handful of players that are known for slacking on D this is the perfect opportunity to develop good habits as a team.
I dont know if I can say enough about LB either because in effect he is at the top of our little knicks totem pole. We havn't had a coach that demands this much respect since JVG. Even if Marbs & Isiah are attached at the hip, Marbs will be gone before Brown without question so Brown truly has the respect of all his players. No more power struggles this year people.
As far as our position in the east I say aim low & exceed expectations so I say we're top 6 but I'd bet on us being a better than that.

The Knicks have never had this kind of athleticism top to bottom. Never. Generally, athletes can be taught to play d. We'll see.
