Still Looking To Deal: The Lakers were disappointed about Eddy Curry going to the Knicks because they were sure they made a better offer to the Bulls.
They might have as far as Chicago's end of it, in pitching Chris Mihm, Vlade Divac and a first-round pick. Where they fell short was in the three-year, $21 million deal they were willing to give Curry. The Knicks reportedly gave Curry $60 million for six years.
The Lakers also had looked to land Jason Kapono before he signed with Miami. The latest rumor is that they plan to send Jumaine Jones to Charlotte for a second-round pick to ease their logjam of small forwards, but as of Tuesday, GM Mitch Kupchak denied that deal was on the table.
I dont know, but Id rather have Curry than Chris Mihm as well.
I don't think the Lakers are doing things based on Bynum for the next two years-I only see Bynum is a short minute[maybe6-10 minutes in 60+ games]role this year--maybe something along the lines of what jermaine oneal did in Portland. There is no way anyone can put an expectation on a 17 YO to play 30 minutes who hasnt even played that many structred basketball games and then he needs to play within a complex triangle offense. I dont see anyway he plays other thn a third man back up to go in there as 6 fouls get a couple of rebounds intimidate the lane a litle bit and find a few dunks. Maybe he starts in the NBDL and works up to the Lakers? but they dont have enough big men--this is like jumping from high school to a job with IBM--he can be smart and have skills, but its going to be overwhelming to a 17 year old kid. The only expectation that a fan can have for bynum is a two year timeframe and to give a positive short contribution when called upon and for have him to continue working hard on his body and soaking up the game. If some people are saying guys like Lee and frye ned to soak up the game consider a 17 year old
