I don't follow baseball that closely all year round so I don't know much about LA. How good are they? Are you expecting them to give the Yanks much trouble?

I am a Yankee fan so I am hoping that the Angel's won't give the Yankee's too much trouble. I hope Chicago knocks out Boston.

The Angels were the first team to clinch a pennant in the AL. Their strenght is their pitching, led by CY Young candidate and 21-game winner Bartolo Colon. Their relief pitching is strong. Their offense isnt as great as it may have been back when the Angels defeated the Yankees in the ALDS in 2002. They have some speed in a couple of guys, and a tough out powerful hitter in Vladimir Guerrero. They aren't an easy team for the Yanks. The AL playoffs feature four strong teams.

Now, the Yanks have figured out Colon before, and he will pitch Game 1. A-Rod has had a lot of sucess against him. The Yankees had early problems with pitching, but guys like Wang, Chacon and Small have helped them fix that considerably. Moose makes his third start since coming back, so he is someone to monitor. The Yanks hope his experience and rest will help him. The bats have been hot lately.

The Yankees are better than ever this season, their pitching looks strong and the bats are there. Flash and Mo will be ready to hold and save the games. The Angels are good, so the Yanks must play at their best. And thats the way they've been playing lately.

The first day of postseason action saw the beginning of three series:

Padres - Cards
Red Sox - White Sox
Yankees - Angels

The Cards were the first ones to record a win, as they held off the Padres for an 8-5 win.

Cards 1, Padres 0

The White Sox opened the postseason with great pitching and, surprisingly, great power. The ChiSox won the opener 14-2, pounding Matt Clement.
ChiSox 1 - BoSox 0

Meanwhile, the Yankees won the opener 4-2 behind a strong Mike Mussina and a great double by Cano.

Yankees 1 - Angels 0

Day two:

The Padres and Cardinals didn't see action, but in their place, the Astros and Braves started things off:

Pettite pitched 7 strong innings and the Braves' pitching collapsed, led off by Tim Hudson, as the Astros won game 1 10-5.

Astros 1 - Braves 0

The battle of the Sox

It looked like a given that the Red Sox would win when they got a 4-0 lead over the White Sox with David Wells on the mound. It didn't happen. The Pale Hose won for the second straight day with a comeback 5-4 win.

White Sox 2 - Red Sox 0

The Yankees got a strong pitching night from Wang and in the bottom of the sixth led the Angels 2-1, but things got crazy as A-Rod made a costly error, Wang made another one and the Angels started bunting their way to a 5-3 viscory to tie the series heading to Yankee Stadium.

Yankees 1 - Angels 1

Not an easy night to report, at least on the team that really matters to me...

I see I missed Day three so here go the results:

Saint Louis 6, San Diego 2

Atlanta 7, Houston 1

Now, on to Day four...

This season will se a new team crowned champion as the Chicago White Sox finished of a sweep of the Boston Red Sox with a 5-3 win in Fenway Park. Freddy Garcia got the win on a humid day that saw Tim Wakefield struggle and giving up important 2 run homers.

Chicago White Sox win series 3-0

Sighs... Now comes the tough part for me...

The Yankees had so many high hopes that their ace Randy Johnson would come through on a big game. He was brought in to NY with the idea of avoiding the terrible pitching problems the Yanks had last postseason, when they blew a 3-0 lead in the ALCS. He was supposed to be the stopper, a given win. But things not always work out like they should've.

The Unit didn't make it past the 3rd inning, giving up 5 runs as he put the Yanks on a hole at home on a very important game in a short series. He left in a chorus of boo's as Aaron Small got the Yanks out of the bases loaded-no outs Randy left. Then the Yanks scored 4 in the bottom of the inning of starter Byrd and the next inning got a 6-5 lead. But Small gave up 2 runs the next inning and the Yanks found out how bad their bullpen is as they ended up losing 11-7 in Yankee Stadium.

The crowd wasn't into it from the beginning. Randy struggled all his outing with location. The Yanks left many in scoring position, only getting the job done in the big inning. It felt like the last playoff games played at Yankee Stadium, no electricity from the crowd untill the run, quiet most of the night as the pitching gives up run after run.

Very frustrating night. Next up is Shawn Chacon to save the Yank's season. We'll see what happens...

Angels 2, Yankees 1

Lets first talk about Day Five:

Astros vs. Braves

Houston's 20-game winner Roy Oswalt pitched 7+ strong innings and the Houston Astros got a big 7th inning of four runs to win 7-3 and put the Braves again at the brink of elimination.

Astros 2, Braves 1

Padres vs. Cardinals

As expected, the St. Louis Cardinals are again in the NLCS as they finished a three game sweep of the San Diego Padres with a 7-4 win.

Cardinals 3, Padres 0

The Yanks vs. Angels game was postponed due to rain

Now on to Day Six:

Astros vs. Braves

Sunday's game between this two rivals started started at 1:05. It ended 5 hours and 50 minutes later. The teams had to play 18 innings to decide a winner, and it the end, it would be the last needed in the series as Chris Burke hit a walk-off home run to lead the Astros to a 7-6 win. The longest game in MLB postseason history saw Roger Clemens win in relief as well as saw two grand slams being hit, the first time in postseason history.

Astros 3, Braves 1

Yankees vs. Angels

Facing elimination, the New York Yankees had high hopes that mid-season steal Shawn Chacon would keep up his strong pitching in pinstripes and help them tie the series. He did just that.

Shawn Chacon had a strong outing pitching into the 7th inning and the Yankees came back from a 2-0 deficit against the Angels' strong relief pitching to win 3-2 and force a game 5. The Yankees got good relief pitching from Al Leiter and Mariano Rivera, who got a 2-inning save, his 34th in the postseason.

Game 5 tomorrow around 8:00 pm where Mike Mussina faces Bartolo Colon again.

Yankees 2, Angels 2
