Announcement
Gotta start Smack today with a special announcement. On October 25, the week before the NBA season tips off, we’re dropping a special collector’s issue of Dime. We’re bringing it extra strong, like you’ve come to expect from us since day one. The issue is a tribute to the last decade of NBA ball and all the players who have elevated the game - Iverson, T-Mac, Kobe, Shaq, LeBron, Duncan, D-Wade, Amare, Yao, Steph, KG and many, many more. We’ve got unpublished photos of the world’s greatest like you’ve never seen them. It’ll be so hot, it’s the kind of thing you can leave on your coffee table and your girl won’t even mind. The issue will be available at thousands of newsstands across the country, but of course, we’re hooking up our people. If you’re a Dime subscriber and live in the U.S., we’re sending it to you for free as our way of saying thanks for your support. If you aren’t a Dime subscriber, you have until the end of the day on Friday to subscribe if you want the collector’s issue for free. Click here to SUBSCRIBE . … Despite the Bulls’ reluctance to hook up a sign-and-trade for Eddy Curry, a few teams, most notably the Knicks, have reportedly thrown offers Chicago’s way. Supposedly New York offered Michael Sweetney for Curry. Not surprised that Chicago didn’t bite. … We caught a few minutes of the WNBA Finals game between the Connecticut Sol and the Sacramento Monarchs on TV yesterday afternoon. They had one very cool thing going that would be a tremendous staple for NBA broadcasts. Both head coaches had microphones on them so that you could hear live everything being said during timeouts in the huddle loud and clear. … Chucky Atkins was interviewed in yesterday’s Orlando Sentinel and was asked about his time in L.A. "In L.A. last season, it was a zoo at times,” Chucky said. “Once we started losing, it became a free-for-all, everything getting blown out of proportion. My only regret is not getting a chance to make it right there." … We also spotted a story about how Steve Francis will probably see a lot of his playing time at the 2 spot this season in Orlando. "Where I play is not my decision to make, so there’s not much for me to say," Francis was quoted as saying. "He [Coach Brian Hill] has said he’s not had a chance to coach any of the players, so he hasn’t made any hard decisions. I’m going into training camp with an open mind. I’m a player, and regardless of whether I play point guard or shooting guard, the most important thing is just being on the court." Let’s get right to the important question. What does this mean for his fantasy numbers? … Did you see that over the weekend, former Wizards draft pick Juan Carlos Navarro dropped 35 on Latvia in the European Championships for Spain? The guy went 22-24 from the foul line in the game. … We’re out like E-City Knicks jerseys.
