Eddy Curry Bulls Bulls Curry and the qualifying offer
Sep 16 - It looks likely that Eddy Curry will play for the Bulls' one-year qualifying offer of $5.14 million this season, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. If so, he would become an unrestricted free agent after the season. Agent Leon Rose has reportedly been seeking a sign-and-trade deal for Curry, but general manager John Paxson said it's an unrealistic option. Paxson said the Bulls had offered Curry a multi-year deal that involved a shared risk between the team and Curry, whose heart problems are the source of the complicated negotiations. Gerald Wallace Bobcats Bobcats? Wallace, Bobcats not seeing eye to eye
Sep 16 - Bobcats management and Gerald Wallace can't come to an agreement, the Charlotte Observer reports. "We're at a stalemate. And as far as value, we think we're fair," coach/general manager Bernie Bickerstaff said. "I would assume he'll play for the qualifying offer. Our message was very consistent: We like Gerald, we want him on our basketball team, and if he reaches the status they say he is, we'll pay him well." Agent Rob Pelinka said Wallace must now consider either playing for the one-year qualifier -- about $2 million -- or finding a team willing to sign him to an offer sheet. The restricted free agent reportedly is turning down a three-year deal worth about $16 million from the Bobcats. Gary Payton Celtics Suns? Heat? Where does 'The Glove' fit?
Sep 16 - The Heat, still in search for a backup point guard, aren't ruling out free agent Gary Payton, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports. Said Pat Riley: "Gary Payton is the best available player out there now. ... His numbers from last year were as good as a number of young guards in this league. What he is, is he's proven. He's got savvy. He's fearless. And he can still play." Riley declined to discuss specific plans, but the decision may also hinge on Payton's willingness to play a supporting role. Jannero Pargo Bulls Bulls? Pargo's a go
Sep 16 - According to the Chicago Sun-Times, guard Jannero Pargo will remain with the Bulls and a deal could be finalized next week. The restricted free agent averaged 6.4 points and 2.4 assists in 32 games last season.
Greg Buckner Nuggets Wizards? Pistons? Nuggets? Rockets? Buckner's back ... almost
Sep 16 - Kiki Vandeweghe said he hopes to finalize a contract with Nuggets free-agent shooting guard Greg Buckner in the next week, the Rocky Mountain News reports.
Steve Blake Wizards Cavaliers? Timberwolves? Heat? Terp love
Sep 16 - The Miami Herald reported that the Heat have held discussions with the Wizards about a sign-and-trade for restricted free agent point guard Steve Blake. However, Pat Riley may be reluctant to make the deal, the Sun-Sentinel reports. "I love Steve Blake," said Pat Riley. "I think he's got a great upside, but what we are right now is about now." Yuta Tabuse Clippers Raptors? Clippers? Talking Tabuse
Sep 16 - Raptors general manager Rob Babcock was interested in inviting Japanese point guard Yuta Tabuse to training camp to compete as the team's third-string point guard, the Toronto Sun reports. But Tabuse apparently has other plans. "I talked to Tabuse's representative and it seems he's already committed to the L.A. Clippers," Babcock said yesterday.
