Forget about New Orleans for a minute. Think what the war in Iraq is doing to this country economically, as well as the lost lives. Bush has got us buried so deep in a hole now we won't get out until who knows when. It is time we pulled out of Iraq and cut our losses, before there are are literally more lives lost, and more loss of our hard earned money being spent on future taxes to pay for Bush's war. http://costofwar.com/index.html

IM not so certain until it was a matter of time until we had to take it to them. I hate the dumb texan motherPhucher and his idiot school teacher bitch, as well as his two slut daughters, and I hate war monger elitest republicans, but this freakin Jihad is real and I can't say takin to them is such a bad idea.

I think a biological event or a dirty bomb still might be inevitable, but I think those talablan, and other groups really were gonna just take it us.

Sad sad thing is one day we gonna build a monument in DC cuz This dumb ass was the one that defeated the Arabic offenders! Guy is dumber than spit!

Dammit people, get out and VOTE!

Im sick of partisan politices. Rebublicans are too scared to ever cut this guy down cuz it not loyal to the party. These folks are more loyal to the party than the country itself! Vote dammit! Now we get this guy picking more supreme judges than any modern president! Vote dammit!

excellent post nalod, and the point is the Jihad is real, the problem is that people don't want to admit that we would have to face it now or in the near future because it would look like they are being fair and giving bush any sort of credit.. I mean lord forbid anyone who doesn't like bush and his administration to be fair.... good post, at least you didn't take the rout of trying to make it seem like this was never a real threat just to make bush look bad..

On the real tho, I don't hate him as much as you seem to, but it is clear this guy is not president material, I did like the way he seemed to try and rally the country during 911, but other than that, he has been shaky at best...

This whole war is the result of the government's deception over the public when the whole thing began...
It's Bloody and costly... and is hurting our image worldwide.. creating a recruiting tool for our enemies.
We were completely misled and the only result of that has been Tenet(ex-CIA director) stepping down.
The entire World views us as an arrogant Superpower.
and of course our economy and infrastructure investments have been hurt as a result...

However.. Pullig out of Iraq would be a huge mistake.
We must win or we will deal with the terrorism problem for many decades to come.
With that said.. There was no link between terrorists and Iraq before our invasion.
With the vacuum in power.. terrorists were allowed to form an infrastructure for their guerilla plans...
Because we left that vacuum of power.. I believe it was botched by our over-zealous civilian military commanders...
And the blame also falls on the Commander in chief for a lack of forsight to see the very problem that was estimated by his father and the very reason we did not invade after we liverated Kuwait.
We ultimatetly did not have enough forces on the ground to secire the country.
But we are now there.. and we have no choice but to overcome the insurgency and demoralize our enemies throught the region.
Iraq is now a place we must win... we have to.

The entire World views us as an arrogant Superpower

And this is as a result of what? I think this view has been held for many, many years.... What spurned the first attack on the WTC? the one where they tried to blow it up from the foundation, it seemed like we were the object of hatred then...

Let me be more clear for you...

Before... the same people that hated us.. still did before the Iraq War.
Now... ALOT MORE hate us from those regions that breed warped views that innocent people and even yourself is a good thing.
not only that...
but to make matter worse...
Countries that we have historically been closely allied with have drifted from our sphere of influence as a result of our arrogant War in Iraq.

Exactly, if you live in a country in the Middle East (say Syria or Iran) and the US decides you are building WMD"s, now you think the US might invade your country anytime. And if they find out later that your country didn't have WMD's, ala Iraq, do you think they will say, oh well, the US's heart was in the right place. People don't want global police and a show of force telling them how to rule their country. They don't want us meddling in their affairs, especially with the religious differences and cultural differences. Hence, you have a breeding ground for newly militant Muslims who hate the US.

The hatred goes back 50 some years ago when we competed with the Soviet Union. we had to keep them from securing oil resurves and the ever so popular warm water port.

We wined and the dined the likes of the Shah or Iran, who to control his many tribes was ruthless in his techniques. We funded him, and our beloved Sadam for years and they turned on the civilians, keeping them down, and forging hatred which we deserved. The poor, and ignorant look to the mulah's for guidence. No the sharpest crayons themeselve, they do what all fundamental nut jobs do when hope is lost, they turn to violence. This is the simple version, but we are paying a price that helped win the cold war.

We are a country of isolationists, but this time they are coming over and setting up cells, and big time funding.

I bush did what ever he could to get us involved, and used the emotions of 9/11 to fuel it. Kinda like when we placed an embargo on japan in 1941, but japan in turn saw the lack of fuel and steel supplies as a threat so they bombed pearl harbor thinking this would at least delay an embargo. So we in frenzy of public support, we declared war on Them, and Germany. WTF did Germany have to do with pearl harbor? Nothing, but we wanted blood and entered the european campaign FINALLY with some backing of the hesitant american public. We were almost too late! Oh, and we wanted the russians out. We loved that Germany invaded Russia! And we let Russia almost go down! Left to a pulp, we could have easily dealt with them later! They bounced back quick as they paid a hell of a price (20 mil estimated) to keep it together. Slave labor and some good natural resources helps! Phuchers! Anyway, my point is we play lots of games over history, but we as American prefer to not preempt any hostility until it concerns us. And perhaps we needed to do this.

I see it as bad reasons to do whats right?

But dammit to hell, I really can't imagine sending my 14 year old. I know that sounds selfish. Not while we are driving SUVs and trying to maintain "NORMALCY". That **** really gets me. For some families the sacrifice is as great as anywar, but we got employee pricing to sell oversized pieces of sh!t to maintain profits! We are run by elite SOB's who rarely ever did any service time! The democrats are full of vets of some sort.

Im conflicted by many things, and while there are components that I can understand and agree, I am sad and confused by the lack of commitment. We are fighting for the amercian way of life, but that is becoming over consumption of material goods and services. I can't support that with my boy. I would give every bit of anything I own and my own life for his.

Again, I am conflicted over much.

I have said this before tkf, and I will say it again. Jihad is a bigger problem in Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. Iraq just doesnt follow priority if you look at it objectively. If you find the most credible terrorist threats around the world, you will find that most of them have either found shelter in Pakistan or been sponsored by the Saudi's. Out of the 10 hijackers who flew into New York on September 11th, 7 were Saudi Arabian. Pakistan has a military general ruling the country just like Castro in Cuba. Why is the united states after 9/11 allied with them?

To make it worse, Bush has no exit plan in Iraq. That entire region is sitting on a Shiah v. Sunni war once our troops leave. No one can avoid it. Why would we invade Iraq before we solve the bigger problems dealing with countries like Saudi just for starters? And seriously, even after 9/11, even after we allied ourselves with Pakistan and Saudi, we have lost 2 reporters in Pakistan and the London bombers were of that diaspora. tkf: You have to admit that something doesnt seem right about the Bush government in Iraq.

Present-day hatred towards the US in the Middle East is spawned by our "support of Israel."

great post nalod, I am also sad and confused about the lack of commitment. Unfortunately I am one of these Suv drivers, my wife especially, we have been forcefed these gas guzzling bohemiths, I mean people say they need the space but the same people are single for a large part are either single or have one child.. confusing.. Hey I mean we need these trucks right? what else are we going to do with these 26 inch rims, I mean why put the chrome industry out of business... Anyway, people scream that we are fighting for oil and that isn't right, yet they must drive these SuV's and demand that they pay no more than 2 bucks per gallon of gas.. yes this is our way of life, we are fighting for.... And is seems sad but necessary all at the same time..

silver you bring up some good points and I am not going to BS you, I think we would have to had dealt with iraq at some point in time, but again as you said, something doesn't seem right, at least at this point...Could we have dealt with iraq later? probably... why now? I don't really know...

The US isnt made out of money, and this so-called war could go on for decades. WW2 consisted of EVERY single superpower and it lasted a little more than 5 years. we are chasing guys driving around in 1986 honda's filled with TNT in a country of 35mm people--you CANNOT win that type of war--what we CAN do is help establish an Iraqi army--give them all the military equipment they need and let US special forces work with Israel to come up with new war planning for them. Israel needs to be the brains here, even if it's behind the scenes because they are much more skille d in this type of warfare.

We NEED an exit date--we need a 6 month exit date--that puts the war at almost 4 years--MORE than enough time to train a new army, equip it and let them go to work.

Every time we --as in US spews a bomb that kills ANYONE over there--10,000 more suicidal bombers are ready for action and when they go down, they have 20,00 more teenagers waiting to take their turn. These people DO NOT care if they die--you CANNOT beat that--we have to LEAVE so they can figure it out themselves. We can be behind the scenes, but civil war is inevitable there.

Biggest threat to US is China no IFS ANDS or BUTS. They own trillions of dollars in T-Bills, they are growing at enormous rates, CHina WILL be the NEXT superpower--that is going to happen-we do not have the capabilities any more to stop it because we have just collapsed in the last 10 years.

We need to be smart--to regroup-re-strategize and let's see if we can work with some countries to quell all of this war mongering. Are we going to sopend 5 trillion dollars fcking with Iran and NK--so that when they are primed China sens 5 mm soldiers over to US soil so they can capture US and Canadian land because their's is over-populated, polluted and void of many features of North America. Chinese MF is worse than some stupid towel head. Lok at history, they will throw 2 year olds in microwaves to dispose of them--they are COMMUNISTS they DO NOT give a fck.

We need to leave the ME fcks alone--let them fight amongst themselves--there is NO way any terrorist has the capability of doing more damage than Katrina-and if they did execute in a biological weapon somehow--we werent going to stop them anyway.

Damn Briggs... You got enough there to form a Political party around...
ALthough I disagree with a few mionoir things.. I agree with alot of your post.
Our biggest agreement is China.
They are the sweatshop of the world and our using our own free trade principles against us because they do not play on an even playing field.
They are also gearing up their military moreso than other nation on the planet for 4 years straight..
6 months ago they passed a law clearing all legal hurdles for an invasion of Taiwan according to their legal system.
Recently, one of their highest decorated Generals said China would be forced to use Nuclear weapons against any US agression in defense of Taiwan because the Chinese military is unable to win a conentional war against the United States.
They are forming strategic economic and military alliances that really trouble me.
I'm relieved that their attempted purchase of Unocol failed.
They are absolutely our greatest threat.
Unfortunately our government doesn't seem to be on the Ball.
We need to focus on infrastructure like you said...

good but scary post Briggs, that is why good leadership is needed and the end of bush's term can't come quick enough... the only thing about china I don't agree with you is their williness to invade a country like ours... They have their hands full with worrying about N Korea (I think).. now that is a small armpit country that worries me...

The Iraq war has been a game of three card monte by Bush.

We should have taken it to the perpetrator of 9/11, bin Laden.

Instead, Bush had him cornered at Tora Bora, and let him go:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8853000/site/newsweek/

Exclusive: CIA Commander: U.S. Let bin Laden Slip Away

[...]

But in a forthcoming book, the CIA field commander for the agency's Jawbreaker team at Tora Bora, Gary Berntsen, says he and other U.S. commanders did know that bin Laden was among the hundreds of fleeing Qaeda and Taliban members. Berntsen says he had definitive intelligence that bin Laden was holed up at Tora Bora—intelligence operatives had tracked him—and could have been caught. "He was there," Berntsen tells NEWSWEEK. Asked to comment on Berntsen's remarks, National Security Council spokesman Frederick Jones passed on 2004 statements from former CENTCOM commander Gen. Tommy Franks. "We don't know to this day whether Mr. bin Laden was at Tora Bora in December 2001," Franks wrote in an Oct. 19 New York Times op-ed. "Bin Laden was never within our grasp." Berntsen says Franks is "a great American. But he was not on the ground out there. I was."

MORE EMPHASIS ON SCHOOL--GO TO SCHOOL ON SAT AND ONLY 6 WEEKS OFF IN THE SUMMER, MANDATE IT EVERYHWRE--THIS WILL GIVE MINORITIES MORE CHANCES AT INCREASING THEIR OWN EDUCATIONS AT THE LOWER LEVELS--MORE SCHOOL TIME WHERE THERE IS MANDATORY HOMEWORK SESSIONS AND SCHOOL TO 4:30 AND HALF DAYS SAT

Briggs, where the hell did you get this madness?

Did you write this?

that's right I believe it would help minorities tremendously--if anyone disagrees that an added two hours a day and a half day on Sat wouldn't be extremely beneficial to everyone, ESPECIALLY minorities, you are flat out wrong. many minorities have parent[s] who work 2 jobs and cant be at home to supervise-- the kids get more discipline in school--with a two hour mandatory daily homework session and a half day on SAT would be a HUGE RELIEVE for parents and HIGHLY beneficial for kids. 14 hours a week extra to help kids learn--thats where investment should be prioritized.
