Just in case
New York Knicks (33-49) ...

ADDITIONS: Channing Frye (Arizona), Jerome James (Seattle), David Lee (Florida), Quentin Richardson (Phoenix) and Nate Robinson (Washington).

SUBTRACTIONS: Jermaine Jackson, Bruno Sundov, Kurt Thomas (Phoenix) and Jerome Williams (retired).

STRENGTHS: Larry Brown is on the bench ... He has a history of making mediocre teams good ... This will be a more than decent defensive team if Brown has his will ... With players like Stephon Marbury, Jamal Crawford, Quentin Richardson or Allan Houston, the Knicks can boast of one of the best backcourts in the Eastern Conference on talent alone ... Pretty deep team ... They have quite a few impressive athletes ... Although young, Nate Robinson and Trevor Ariza are very intriguing ... With the additions of Jerome James and Channing Frye, size will not be as big of an issue as it was in the past.

WEAKNESSES: Too many players with a me-first attitude ... Can they coexist – namely Stephon Marbury – with Larry Brown? ... Will Marbury and Crawford share the ball more? ... There are not many good passers on the team ... No consistent low-post scorers unless Mike Sweetney develops into one ... Kurt Thomas' rebounding may be missed ... Allan Houston is the only pure shooter on the team and he may not be able to play ... Isiah Thomas took a big risk with Jerome James ... He could easily end up being a non-factor – which is exactly what he was for the most part of his career in Seattle.

PROJECTION: 2nd in the Atlantic Division / 8th in the Eastern Conference

fair preview, nothing new. I disagree with this though: "Kurt Thomas' rebounding may be missed"

As someone who suddenly has very little free time on his hands, it's awesome to have a site like this where I can go to to get all the Knicks news that I need. Thanks everyone!

Kurt is a good rebounder. He's slow and he should not be a starting PF but his rebounding probably will be missed. If Q plays a lot of SG, it will help compensate for losing Kurt's 10 RPG.

Good point about Q. I'm interested to see how Frye does in this department. 7.6 rpg in 31 minutes against college competition isn't encouraging.

hey that would be cool. I will be happy if our young players do well and we establish a style of play, much like Hubie did with his first year with the Grizz. They really didnt win more games per say, but they played better and they played right, and you could see them ready to turn the corner

Sounds about where I would place them if they all have an average season. If a guy Steph Q or Craw has a career year and Sweets improves to maybe 10 and 8....I can see us moving up to 5th or even winning the division.

KT averaged 10 rebounds a game. Was top ten in the league.

Yeah, it will be missed!

But its not (sip-sip) fatal.

Nalod, we may have lost kT's 10 per game, but remember, we got back Q's 6, Sweetney's rebounding should go up by a rebound or 2, and James should gives us about 5......that is 13 rebounds, and a more well rounded lineup. PLus we got Nate in the KT deal.

So, if the knicks do what all the naysayers are expecting, we get the 8th seed and 2nd in the atlantic.

If they overachieve a little, we could take the atlantic?

If this kool aid really works, we get to the second round!?!?!?

Hey, looks like everyone is coming around slowly but surely.
all kool aid all the time.

^ that's exactly what I meant. Props to Kurt for being in the top 10 this year, but were these rebounds really offensive boards or just a missed shot and a convenient defensive rebound? The players we acquired this year and/or improvements by other guys on our roster should more than compensate for KT.

i think we are extremely underrated our bench gives us flexibility, we can go big with crawford Q TT Frye and Big game or small with nate marbury ariza sweets and frye or atheletic with nate marbs craw ariza frye.. the possibilities are endless
What's Defense?

I think a lot of it was the latter. Kurt was surrouned by ineffective rebounders (TT and Sweetney who averaged 3 rbs in 27 mpg and 5 in 20 respectively). As a starter, he's typically been around 8 rpg, which is probably a better indicator of his rebounding skills. He'll be playing with only an 8 RPG center in Amare and on a very fast-paced team with many possessions, so his rebounding stats may end up being inflated again next year.
