Native New Yorker Taylor Brown had this to say about his beloved Knicks. "Growing up in the New York City suburbs, I basically had no choice to be a Knicks fan, and the mid-late 90s was a great ride. Every April through June, my buddies and I would watch every Knicks playoff game, and even now we reminisce about the glory days. "There could be two significant specific moments that I could attribute the transformation of myself from fan to fanatic. The first, Game 7 of the 1994 NBA Finals, also knows as John Starks' debauchery. His jumper, which was the Knicks' bread and butter all season and all playoffs, vanished, but as you must do, you have to shoot out of slumps. Unfortunately, nothing was dropping. Watching Starks deal with this adversity showed me his strength and great character. I had so much compassion for Starks' efforts. "The second event, five years later, was the Knicks' 1999 playoff run; most notably the Allan Houston runner in Game 5 vs. Miami in the first round. I always loved Allan's game; his jumpshot the prettiest thing this side of Cameron Diaz. Watching him sprint down Miami's home floor, fist-pumping and getting tackled by LJ, Patrick, Latrell, and the rest had me going wild. The rest of the playoff run was amazing, but nothing topped that moment sending the #1 seed packing, similar to your Mutombo-led Nuggets example." letter from the editor at nbadraft.net (Even though I spend a lot of time ripping on the Knicks, it must be said that few teams in any sport have better fans than the Knicks. They're knowledgeable, insightful, and loyal. I'm glad Taylor mentioned John Starks. Nobody made MJ work harder. My favorite part of this email was the comparison of Houston's jumper to the striking physical beauty of Ms. Diaz. If Houston's jumper in '99 was the equivalent to Diaz in "The Mask," then Houston's shocking decline is strikingly similar to a too-thin Diaz appearing in every tabloid alongside Justin Timberlake. I'm not sure which one's more depressing.) all kool aid all the time.
