They saved a lot of money by waiving Finley but they're now a worse team. Finley's still a good player. I didn't think Mark Cuban would put money (no matter how much) ahead of winning.

What if Finley ends up the one hitting the series-winning shot against Dallas in the playoffs (assuming he stays in the West)? Poetic justice.
Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

Cuban is a smart guy. He must have a plan.

They're basically fully dependent on Daniels and Stackhouse staying healthy. Even if those two do stay healthy, not having Finley will hurt them. I wonder if the reason he didn't waive Dampier was that he'd have too many tough questions to answer about waiving Dampier one year after signing him to the huge $73 mil contract.

As far as Cuban as a GM, I love his enthusiasm, but I don't think he's done anything spectacular. He messed up by letting Nash go and by getting Dampier. He also had that crazy summer where he put together a team where half the active roster was SFs (Jamison, Walker, Finley, Howard, Daniels, Stackhouse)

the one big mistake that Cuban made was not to reacquire Van Exel....They desperately need a killer like Van Ex in the backcourt. Finley can be easily replaced, because he was a very inconsistant player. They do have Howard and Daniels that can step in and provide the numbers that Finley used to be able to produce. In my opinion, Dallas is a much better team now then they were last season.

What did they do to improve this offseason? Acquire Diop?

a worser team??? daniels and howard are much better than finley at this point.

addition by subtraction. those two will blossom

IMHO dallas tried with a high payroll and has not achieved success with nash, or fin, etc. They are rebuilding. Devan harris is the future at point, Howard on the wing, etc. Dirk is still young.

Damp is a stop gap center who is second tier and might still be respectable.

I understand long term why they allowed Nash to leave, and are doing what they are doing. The mavs are a big draw and will be competitive.

If your not knocking on the door you might as well be fiscally repsonsablle. Cube is running a business, and will have flex in due time.

He is shedding older players and giving the run to the younger players.

the key to letting nash go was devin harris so it's really all on him. if he develops, then cuban did the SMART thing. he decided to put his money towards a center as opposed to a pg (who was breaking down in the playoffs every year), and got a highly touted PG to replace him via the draft.

again, not every move will work out but you can't judge the nash deal after one season. cuban passed on him b/c of the length of years and $$$'s. so unless nash leads the suns to a title before dallas, then it's all good.

hey, we were going to give damp the same type of deal AND we were going to give GS kurt AND nazr. HE turned it down, not us. so we got LUCKY.

I think the Damp deal was bad- there was no way I wanted him for that kind of money- had they stuck it out a year with Dirk as their C, they could have gotten JJ this year as a stop gap measure and saved themselves a bunch of dough.
