NBA Six Pack

As we inch closer to September, and eventually, the start of training camps in October, fans across the country are eagerly anticipating the upcoming NBA season. Some fans are looking for their teams to bounce back after a disappointing '04-'05. Some fans are hoping their teams can build on a promising previous campaign. Some of us are just looking forward to pouring over box scores to see how our fantasy players performed the night before. Whatever the particulars, for true NBA fans, the season can't arrive soon enough.

Today, I thought I'd discuss six things that I'm most looking forward to:

1) Nate Robinson winning the Slam Dunk contest in February: Measuring barely 5'8" in shoes, this kid can do astonishing things on the basketball court. I was skeptical when the Knicks acquired him in a draft day deal with the Suns. But then I saw him toss the ball to himself off the backboard for a dunk during a summer league game in Las Vegas. Then came the ridiculous tip-dunk, amidst all kinds of traffic, during a summer league game in Minnesota. In addition to his freakish athleticism, Nate can play basketball. In Las Vegas, he averaged 17.8 points in just under 27 minutes per game. Then in Minnesota, he showed he can distribute the rock by averaging 6.3 assists. It won't take a week before Nate the Great becomes a fan favorite, as he is going to bring the Garden faithful to their feet on a nightly basis. More importantly, Nate is a gritty defender, which will help him win over Larry Brown. A former defensive back for the U of Washington Huskies, Robinson is tough as nails, and should be able to earn sufficient playing time. Although the Knicks have a logjam at the guard position, no one would mistake Marbury, Crawford, Houston, or Q Rich for defensive specialists. Robinson will find his niche as a perimeter defender and sparkplug off the bench. Soon thereafter, he will dunk his way into the hearts of Knicks fans.

Nice; when's the last time we had anyone that could have physically competed in a dunk contest?

Ariza?

David Lee also won a high school all-star dunk contest, facing off against some insane talent.

I was hoping that the Knicks had a dunk contest with all the young'uns to open training camp or something.

Jamal
Trevor
Nate
Lee

It'd be fun.

Christie doesn't count. He is the reason they got rid of it for a few seasons.

Kenny Walker was the truth

Who gives a **** if Nate wins the Slam Dunk?

Josh Smith won it for Hotlanta and look where they are?

Winning is the only thing that matters...
DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

if nate is in the dunk contest - HE WILL WIN IT.

dude is 5'8

there is no way those judges will not give him 50's on every dunk.

Of course we all want a championship but why is wrong to root for one of our players in the slam dunk contest too?

N8 The SLAM DUNK CHAMP!

Has a nice ring to it. I am definitely betting on N8 to win it.
I'm gonna make sure all the Knicks hater friends and co-workers put their money where their jabber-jaws are.
Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

oh, we're making the playoffs, if not, i'm going to have to resign from the board because it's gonna be tough to be a knicks fan after that one...and I don't like the way crow taste.
