Back To Texas; Van Exel Comes To Terms With Spurs

RealGM - The San Antonio Spurs have reportedly signed veteran guard Nick Van Exel.

Van Exel was a key member of the Mavericks 2003 team that played the Spurs in the Western Conference Finals.

He went on to play for the Warriors in 2003-2004 and then the Blazers in 2004-2005.

i've always liked Nick the Quick even though he brings a lot of headaches to a team as well.

He really found his niche with the Mavs and was such a killer in the playoffs for them. They really went off in a wrong direction dealing him for jamison.

I heard they were looking to trade Brent Barry and this pickup could engender that.

I agree with Marv, the Mavs had a damn good nucleus a few years back and should have kept that squad together. Antwan was far superior to NVE but alot has to be said for players playing a particular role.

van exel a bit like sam cassell- ice in veins, doesn't wilt under pressure.

yea but I dont know what he's got in the tank... he's been pretty gimpy. Still... with him and Bob they have some serious threats for big shots late in the game

they brought him in for playoff insurance. nothing more. he can go kick back and chill somewhere for the season, the spurs dont care.
