The Dallas mav front office will sign any one that has legs. Cuban has to be the worst GM in the NBA. He gets a free ride for doing exactly what IT does but only worst. He brings in any and every player he gets his hand on..And it seem s he does not have a plan or clue...Sure they make the playoffs but never seem to go far... Help me out on this one... not exactly a Knick topic But this guy DIOP

Last time I checked, the Mavs were a 50 win team 5 years in a row.

I guess that means he's a bad GM...

DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

well, the moves he's made to put them over the top have been unsucessful, the annual retooling with guys like walker, stackhouse, van horn, jamison, dampier have not made significant progress. before we all kissing his @ss realize that despite all the noise they're really treading water and haven't found the next piece to compete with the real elite. and of course, you could say that a mroe conventional approach based on bringing out the chemistry of current players could have done that. cuban's made some good moves that have made them a perennial top team, but they've had equal hits and misses.

also, it's a commonly agreed on sentiment that the real goal is a championship andanything less is some kind of failure. we hold the knicks to that when contemplating our possible moves and strategies; the mavericks are closer but not true contenders, haven't been for a while and aren't looking like significant improvement is around the corner.

if i asked you guys if you'd be satisfied with the knicks with 5 years of 50 wins but still being a good level below championship contenders, justifiably most people would say no. so let's not call cuban a genius yet. he made the mavs an exciting and successful team out of garbage, but hasn't taken them all the way and its doubtful if he can.

Would I be happy with 5 years of 50 win seasons?

Here's a question. How many games did we win in '99 when we went to the finals? 50? I think not!

99 was a shortened season dude....

That's beside the point anyway - There's a HUGE difference b/w 30 wins and 50. End of story. Period. Exclamation. Shut down.

a team can go 70-12 and not win the title and those 70 wins dont mean a dam thing....it means just as much as the team that went 12-70

Not exactly. you get those playoff series where you see what players you have that step up and who falters. Its another stage to gauge your players with. It gives you an idea of where you are, and even when you don't win, those games and series' are just so much more fun to watch!!!

Cube is not the GM.

When he realized his team was flawed and was never going to eclipse to win it all, he dropped back and rebuilds.

He thought paying big bucks for Nash was not a good LONG TERM deal for him.

I respect his thinking and the effort he made. He is thinking though.

You guys are insane....not every team is slotted to win championships...You have to get lucky also. Oh, yes, I would definitely take 50 wins over 30

This win the title or nothing atitude is has its limits, just like anything else in life, you can try and stech it to some obscene extrimistic views in the likes of 72 or 12 wins w/out a title its all the same, but reality is quite different.

When you teams wins 50 games and goes to the postseason, you are a contender. For the last 5 years Dallas has had a fighter's chance of winning it all, they were not the consensus pick, but sayin that they just arent in it to win is simply not true.

In almost the past 10 years, 3 teams have won the title, and if you go back almost 20 years, you will see that about 5 teams have won it. Today there are 30 teams in the league. Should the rest 25 other teams just pack it in and not even bother?

Winning a championshiop is very very hard. You can build an outstanding team only to loose to a better team by 1pt in the 7th game.

A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

The Mavericks have been a bubble team in terms of champisonship contention, with a solid nucleus led by Dirk, that has made some questionable moves in an attempt to put themselves over the top.

the ultimate goal for team, franchise, city and fans is going championship. everyone on this forum that wants to rebuild, retool, or reshape wants to someday go championship. of course its not easy....its called competition + the next level. and looking at dallas, is like looking to get lucky in the playoffs. everybody knew dallas would have no problem making the playoffs, they were hoping dallas would get a lucky break at the buzzer. and guess what, with all the competition in the west, dallas still has not added the pieces to go championship.

in the east, miami leaves no doubt
