MARV STILL MIFFED? YES!

By MIKE FORDE

August 19, 2005 -- Looks like Marv Albert is still harboring bad feelings for James Dolan and the rest of Albert's former Garden bosses.

Albert, who will be the Nets' play-by-play man this season, sounded off on the Knick bosses Wednesday while shooting a TV spot for the YES Network.

"When you work for somebody for such a long period of time, it's strange not doing the games, but I still feel that it's a very difficult place if you are to do the games correctly," Albert said. "They know they can't do what you're supposed to do.

"It's not like you're Mike Wallace or Edward R. Murrow, but there are obvious things that have to be said that they don't want to be said. It's so silly because fans see it. Players look at tapes. They know. You're a mirror of what's happening. I've never heard of that happening, and it did the last couple of years. You lose your credibility with that type of situation."

Albert has been rumored to be the voice of NBC's Sunday night football broadcast, although a decision is months away from being made.

"[NBC Sports president] Dick Ebersol and I talked," Albert said. "But I have no idea what's going to happen there. I don't think they're going to make a decision right away. I kept seeing my name in articles and I was asked about it and I said, 'Sure, I'd be interested.'"

YES has yet to announce who will join Albert in the TV booth.

The search is down to three candidates: ESPN's Mark Jackson, TNT's Kenny Smith and CBS' Mike Gminski, who looks like the front-runner and most logical choice, since it is unlikely Jackson will be let out of his contract and Smith will cost too much.

Asked if he thought he was the front-runner, Gminski said, "I really have no idea. When you get down to the last two or three, there's not much difference. I have more game experience than the other two and I obviously know the team after playing for them. I have as much going for me as I can right now."

Reggie Miller will join TNT's broadcasts of the NBA for the 2005-06 season, it was announced yesterday.

Miller, who retired at the end of last season after an 18-year career with the Pacers, will split time doing studio work and game analysis.

"TNT has an off-the-cuff approach and that was always the type of player I was and the type of person I am," Miller said. Miller had also been in discussions with ESPN and ABC Sports, but ultimately chose to go to Turner where his sister Cheryl works.

Speed Network announced this week that NASCAR Nextel Cup driver Brian Vickers will replace Johnny Benson as a weekly guest on Inside Nextel Cup once the 10-race Chase for the Cup begins. Speed wanted to get a younger voice on the program. Vickers is 21-years-old.

Rusty Wallace, who will retire at year's end, will be a weekly guest on Speed's Trackside NASCAR show. He will be on during the second half of the season. Fox' Darryl Waltrip will be on during the season's first half.

Former defensive back Solomon Wilcots will join Sirius Satellite Radio and have a weekday radio show, NYP TV Sports has learned. Wilcots played six years in the NFL with the Bengals, Vikings and Steelers.

Marv overplayed his hand and he should have known that everyone is replaceable. Breeny is every bit as good as Marv ever was without the affectation and sarcastic humor.
We could be the Dallas Mavs of the East.

Who's better than marv other then bob costas, and maddens partner( forgot his name) Dolan is straight up stupid for the firing of marv ( THE VOICE OF THE KNICKS). BREEN IS OK but he is no marv. when you get guy's that cover the NBA, and not just your local team, what do you expect them to say...

DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

awww man now i have to constantly look at his teeth. Oh yeah, someone tell Marv to go on with his life. Life is too short to spend it dwelling on the past. Go on, Marv.

You know since he left I really didn't feel the difference from the commentators. Niether did Dolan. lol He said he is not going to pay Marv a million dollars to broadcast, but is paying Houston to cheer.

But really he is commenting on the overall wackness that is James Dolan. He runs the organization like the GOP. Lets quiet any voice of decent, lets stick with people who are proven failures, and lets spend all we want because in the end the jerks in the audiance will pay whatever we want them to pay.

I mean dont you get annoyed when Breen sits there gushing over players like theyre the second coming, when theyre second string journeymen. I know I hate it.

After Albert's scandal, Dolan was the only one to stand by the guy. And that's when if anyone remembers was when like a hundred woman organization groups were protesting outside MSG like everyday. NBC dumped him quick and sweet. Breen had to take a back seat to Marv when Dolan thought the time was right to bring the guy back on tv. Now just cause he wants to stay in the NY market he cause a so called collague to get the boot. I have to agree with Mike and the Mad Dog on this one. Marv is all about Marv. He hated Ewing, only talks about the 69 and 72 teams unless he can reference himself into them. Marv loves Marv.
