and there clearly won't be, does it make sense to take a flyer on Desagna Diop. He's 23, huge. There aren't too many more positives than that, but that may enough to bring him in & "coach him up". We have the low level, right? Say we get 20 minutes a night from JJ...maybe 10 from Diop...that reduces the need to force the issue with Frye at Center (I think he'll be a better PF than Center, especially until he gets stronger).

All I'm saying is that Diop is a low risk & possibly decent reward guy.

Butler is significantly smaller than Diop. He looks like a low level prospect for PF, not C. I don't see why people think Butler is anything but an undrafted CBA-er who, if he really develops, might be a 12th man.

I know Diop sucks now & I'm not saying we should make any sort of big commitment, but these are the kind of guys you grab & hope they develop (especialy when you have top notch coaching).

Also, don't the extra roster spots (under the new CBA) allow for both prospects?

I was thinking the exact same thing about DIOP. he is young enough and needs good coaching and has huge size and has had some flashes over the past few years with blocked shots, etc.

We should sign him with our LLE for 2 years and see what's up.

Who cares about Jackie Butler at center? Bring young guys in and have them compete for playing time. If Butler is better at center than Diop, LB will play Butler. If Diop is better, Diop will get PT.

Diop is at least twice the prospect that Butler is. As others have mentioned, he has shown some ability at the NBA level. Butler has not.

Diop could earn some playing time right away.

Screw Butler.

diop has also had a lot of time to "show something" and is currently bouncing around the league.

jackie has had a fraction of a season to pick up with a team and get in the game less than a year out of high school. i'm all for giving him a chance.

How can you be bouncing around when you have only played for one team?

No offense to Butler, I think he deserves a chance with an NBA team. But who is the better prospect for our needs? Diop has actual center size. 7.0' 280 LB! And I think they are cutting off a few pounds.

Here is what it is. Diop could possibly contribute to the Knicks this year. Butler I don't think can.

i think Diop has to be on the Knicks' radar...sign him to 1 year tender & guarantee him the full MLE extension after this season...let's complete our collection of big bodied scrubs who haven't proven jack in the NBA.
After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.

I'm with you. Diop has been mediocre to bad at every level. At least JB went to the CBA and basicly blew away everyone he played at 19 years old. I dont remember his numbers but his team was good and he was player of the month twice.

Diop couldn't hold Butler jock straps. LOL, but Butler appear in like a fraction of the games Diop has, and I can say without a doubt he had more of an impact. That guy's face should be pastered on the back of every GM's office door around draft time. When wonderful words like potential, high ceiling and upside are bounced around.

For all I know they both suck but did I miss it where Butler actually did something in a game? What impact did he ever do?
fishmike 9/27/2024 11:00 PM Ug I hate this. The idea of Towns is great until you see what a pussy he is. Jules is a dog. DD was a flamethrower locked up cheap for 3 more years. First Leon move I hate

That's my point whatever Butler did it was 10 times more than what Diop ever did in a NBA. Not praising Butler but hating on Diop.

I think he's talking about CBA.

In the short time I saw Butler, I saw someone that had the inkling of an offensive game a la a Sweetney or Curry- a big wide body with good hands.

bouncing in that his last team doesn't want him and he's doing the summer league thing trying to get a contract from whoever will give it to him.

Butler has a nba high of 2 min played in a game/6pts. Diop has nba highs of 10 pts, 5 off reb, 9 def reb, 11 tot reb, 5 blocks, 31 min played. To be honest I really don't remember seeing Diop play but unlike most posters I am not real impressed with Butler. At most this year I see a year in the NBDL and then who knows. If the price is right Diop is worth a look in camp.
