I don't get it. Looking at the amount of money those 3 would have cost our cap clearly identifies the reason why Zeke made that move. Mo is 29 and will only cost the Knicks $18 Millions over 2 years while he can still provide us with some production.

Vinny, Coochie and Weatherspoon combined would have cost the Knicks the same amount that in two years. 3 bodies for 1 create rooms on the roster for our youngsters.

I hate to burst your bubble Dido but Spoon wasn't part of that deal. He was traded for Coochie right when Isiah arrived here in December '03. When it's said and done I still don't think the move was THAT bad. Kind of weird? Yes. Pointless? Probably. BUT, Mo T can still play a bit which is something that Vinny and coochie could NOT do and it opened up a roster spot for someone like Jackie Butler, so I'm ok with it.

Maybe Zeke will make a move, clearing some PFs and then this move will make some sense, but as it stands now: We traded away what would be expiring contracts this year and a 2nd rounder for an overpaid bum who couldn't even make the active roster in Houston.
I'm having trouble seeing how it was a good deal.
It's mostly that pick that gets me...

MoT made the active roster and, if I'm not mistaken, started for houston.

I think the thing was timing and chemistry...VanG has not said one bad thing about mo. And VanG likes to bash those that are bashable.

I think Zeke is about to clear out our PFs...while Rose may had been a throw in for the picks, I think Rose will emerge as a force under brown and will force Zeke's hand.

Somebody has to go...who will it be?

Mo started early on in Houston, but by the trade deadline, he had been put on the IL and missed the previous 17 games.
http://www.nba.com/rockets/news/TRADE_DEADLINE_BRINGS_NEW_FACE-133402-822.html
Taylor departs Houston having averaged 7.8 points and 4.3 rebounds in 38 games this season. The 6-9, 255-pound forward has missed the last 17 games with the flu and plantar fasciitis.
I recall hearing some commotion about him getting stuck on the IL for his lack of defense...sounds about right.
I'll keep my fingers crossed, hoping LB can get Mo to play some d, in which case he could be a very nice player, but until then, giving up anything of value for him like the pick or contracts was too much imo.

here's how i saw this trade:

1. mo taylor has a decent post game but is soft and lazy

2. van gundy put him on IR b/c of this

3. we gave up two deals which would have been expiring this season and could have been used this summer or at the deadline

4. we threw in a #2 pick

5. mo then became our 6th PF and an ADDITIONAL year at $9+ mil.

questions:

1. are we committed to developing sweetney? if so, then why bring in a player that does the same thing with LESS rebounding and defense?

2. if expiring deals got us jamal crawford last summer, why did we not want to hold on to them to try to get someone like swift or SAR this summer? for what SAR almost went to the nets for, we could've gotten him for VIN + spurs #1, no? (not that i wanted him but you get the point).

3. and to take back $9 EXTRA mil + $9 EXTRA more for tax, we STILL threw in a #2 pick. why is that again?

i still don't see why we made this deal. is mo taylor better than vin + moochie combined? YES. but based on the needs of this team, and based on isiah's history of drafting, i think the #2 was more valuable than mo.

Van Gundy is not that creative of a coach. If TMack wasn't a superstar, he would have had some serious issues playing for him. Van is a very stubborn dude...he doesn't know how to improvise or use the talents that he has around.

I agree dido, if you gave VG a ball of clay he would probably only be able to make a coaster out of it for his diet coke--not the creative type.

This is the same JVG who didn't play Camby for like half of a year when he arrived!!! Just because he had a grudge against him?!

That he didn't play for JVG doesn't mean much to me. T-Mac had major problems playing for JVG for the whole beginning of the season, and I think that was primarily because he was trying to have the offense focus on Yao and did not let T-Mac do what he does.

btw, forget what i think as a knicks fan.

the rockets fans were going CRAZY over this trade. they were AMAZED that they were able to unload him, get cap room, AND get a #2 back.

they wanted to make dawson the mayor of houston.

seriously, they're boards were going nuts applauding the move.
