So why did they give away Marc Jackson?

Well The Knicks have......well we all know by know what we have. Typing their names over and over is redundant.

As I look at the rosters and salaries I notice Jamaal Mashburn. Dude is making just about the same as Maurice Taylor. Now Taylor supposedly dosen't play defense or rebound.....but dude can score with the best of them and could provide good insurance for Webber when he is out for his regular 30 games......also trading Mash for Taylor would get rid of a guy that won't play for a guy that will making for a smooth transition.

Makes sense for the Knicks with addition by subtraction.(Salary Dump!)

Mashburn for Taylor......Thoughts?

Yeah....it would be a salary dump. Who knows Mash might decide to come back since he would be back in NY...where he was NY's Mr. Basketball in High School.

Still the basis on my idea is a salary dump and a roster laxative.

The Knicks still would have plenty of depth at the 4.

i have no interest in Mash...maybe a few years ago he would have been an intriguing option, but at this point he's too much of an injury risk...not worth the trouble unless the Sixers were giving up a draft pick to make it worth our while.

just curious...how is this a salary dump when Mash has more money left on his contract than Mo Taylor does? or are you trying to say it would be a salary dump for Philly?

It's about cleaning up the roster. Mash can come back if he wants to....the Knicks would be moving on without him in the plans anyway.

Plan would be to Waive Houston. Then try to use Timmy, Penny, and now Mash as trade bait. If not? they all melt off the cap next year. That's about 40 mil between Timmy, Penny and Mash. Nice....

EDIT: Mash is in the last year of his contract right?

Mash has 2 more years left, just like Mo T...if anyone's getting cap relief here, it's Philly.

Well RealGM says he is in his last year. It's a matter of who you trust.

Still if he is in his last year this trade would make sense. If he isn't than it wouldn't.

yea, that was a strange stange move. It wouldnt have been bad if he was gonna trade one of the PFs but he did nothing with it. Straight up, that was a BAD move.

i didn't dislike it at the time, i'll tell you that much...but that's cuz i figured Isiah had an actual PLAN he was following that guided the decision to trade for Mo T to begin with...as in trading Sweetney as part of a larger deal to fill other holes in the roster...i was obviously overestimating Isiah's faculty to formulate a real plan & following through on it...so i'll eat whatever crow you want me to eat in that regard...Isiah's disappointed me highly w/some of the nonsensical moves he's made since he's been here...but oh, i can't forget he got Larry Brown...i guess that makes everything else OK.

i would trade them mo for dalembert...maybe iverson but that's it. and if they're not willing to throw in a draft pick - forget it and walk away.

a team that had only the likes of juwan howard and scott padgett at PF basically GAVE AWAY mo to us AND got a #2 in the process.

ugghh, we've hashed and re-hased the idiocy of that trade 100 times over.

Zeke got MoT by trading Vin Baker, Coochie and Brewer. Zeke figured he would rather have a big man than the coochie man with a bad contract.

I thought it was a good trade. I still think that guy can become something worth talking about. He is an above average scorer. Dude can take you off the dribble and post up. He can hit the jumper too and he also has very sneaky hops. His motor and energy is good and he has shown he has a killer instinct.

All his skills point to him being a good player offensively. At the time I thought it was genius turning Baker and Moochie to Taylor. Rigth now the Knicks just need to chop somebody off this roster. Rose, or Taylor must be in another uniform next season.

How do you know Isiah's not planning to trade Sweetney and/or some of the other PFs on the team at some point this summer or season?

I liked it then and now.

I'd rather have Mo Taylor who actually has some use on our team than Vin Baker and Moochie Norris and we pay maybe like 8 million more over the course of the 2 and a half season. The contracts expire at the same time, Mo expires with H20 and is a decent player to have. Thats way more than I can say for Vin and Moochie.

actually, vin baker expires this year and moochie has a team option that won't be picked up. so basically they both end a year earlier. we have a glut at powerforward as well, which is why it doesnt make sense to take on extra salary for a year and lose a 2nd round pick for a guy who isn't necessary. vin and moochie could have been traded as an expiring contract deal this year for something more valuable, and if not, they could've come off the books. i would've been fine with the deal if WE got a pick, which we should have, but we definitely got the short end of the deal on that one. it's not that crucial, maybe Isiah wanted to have an expiring deal in 07 with houston so that each year he could potentially make trades with expirign contracts -- financially digging himself into a deeper hole -- but that's the way he "rolls."

I think he provides low post scoring that only 2 or 3 other players on the team can, and only one other PF, sweets.

I still like the trade...just have to find a role, or roll him out the door. But at the time, TT was the only post player on the team.
He had some good games and if he's in shape (giving him the sweetney benefit of the doubt) then he's a monster in the paint offensively.
