Listen, Ive said it before, and I believe it.
Lebron's not happy in Cleveland. Now, he's not going to leave on his current contract, because he's a mature boy, and he feels that he needs to give Cleveland a chance before moving on. But come the end of his contract, he will be looking to leave. He cant get what he wants in Cleveland, thats for sure.
Don't forget, where speaking about arguably the most talented basketball player on the planet here. By the time his contract expires, he will be 22, and have 4 years experiance in the NBA. LeBron James will go WHEREVER HE WANTS! Not wherever the Cavaliers want him to go.
Now the question is, obviously, where will he want to go? And there are many factors to that. Where can he win a championship ring? Where will he be most comfortable? And, yes, money does come into it a little.
As currently constructed, the Knicks probably wouldn't win a chamionship even with LeBron in tow. So, for a ring, no, he aint coming here. Comfortable? The best player on the team with the highest profile, in the biggest city in the US. Yes he would. Money? Well, we will give him whatever he wants. Keys to the city? Here you go 'Bron. Plus there's the rumours about clauses in endorsment contracts and all that. But in the end, it boils down to, will he win a ring with the Knicks?
By the time his contract expires, Marbury will be 30 years old, TT will be ancient history, as will JYD, MO-T, Malik etc. I think, that if by then, we have managed to aquire a real, righteous, hardcore frontcourt stud, the likes of Elton Brand, or a defensive monster like Sammy D or Big Ben, then yes, I think LeBron has every chance of ending up in NY. We will probably have to pay well over the odds for him, including any young players we have, 3-4 1st rounders, and maybe one of our better players. But if we can make the team look desirable to him, I believe he will come.
I don't think it has ANYTHING to do with cap space. If we have cap space by then it will mean that we will have gutted the team to get to that situation, and Lebron will have no interest in coming here at all.
I repeat, at the end of his contract, LeBron will go wherever he wants. We just have to make him want to come here.
Some men see things as they are and ask why. I dream things that never were and ask why not?
