Shareef Will Be In Jersey
8th August, 2005 - 3:22 am
NY Post - Upset by the Nets' handling of medical concerns that arose in his physical — Shareef Abdur-Rahim said that he no longer wanted to join the franchise, but the team is expected to announce on Monday that it is going through with the deal.

Abdur-Rahim was courted heavily by the Nets, but was disillusioned by the team's last-second decision to seek additional medical opinions about scar tissue in his right knee.

When his feelings were published in yesterday's Post, Nets star Jason Kidd, coach Lawrence Frank and Thorn called Abdur-Rahim to rebuild the relationship, sources told The Post.

"Shareef is a good guy, and No. 1, he's a professional," said Thorn. "I understand there's some anxiety and trepidation when the possibility of not ending up with the team you chose arises. We feel we have all the information we need to make a decision within the next day or two."

The Nets have reason to be cautious since they are investing six years and $38 million in the deal. They sent copies of his MRI to three leading orthopedic surgeons and now must decide if they want to complete a sign-and-trade deal with the Trail Blazers.

The Nets will be better for sure, but they don't scare me.

They don't have any defensive depth whatsoever. I can guarantee they don't make it out of the 2nd Round.

DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

Good for Jersey. They couldn't lose this one once it was almost a done deal. They will be good, and they better take advantage of that because their window of oportunity with their all-stars at their age and/or their injury issues will not be a good one soon...

Bobs...there is no way this is the same bobs from last week...I distinctly remember you placing the Nets as a LOCK for the playoffs.

I'm slowly getting the feeling that you are just fun times and like to argue...which is cool.

Welcome to ultimate knicks.

they have no defensive depth just like us but they do have a coach that gets them to play defense and thats how they make the playoffs. Frank gets them to play good defense. Now rebounding is something they can't do. They need more than Rahim they need a bruising bigman.

LOL Kidd, Thorn and Chucky all trying to kiss SAR's azz now.
Punks... the whole team, nothing but nutless, whining punks, I tell you!

I hope this drags on all season if they still make the trade. It's just the kind of locker-room cancer needed for them to implode.
Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

The Nets ARE a lock for the playoffs........I just don't see them getting past the 2nd round.

Their dominance, if there is any, will be felt in the regular season, not the playoffs. Shareef has been to the playoffs, what, NEVER? Watch him crumble under the pressure - then all you have is Kidd, Carter, and Jefferson, the same trio that went 4 and out against Miami last year...who do you think they'd be facing in the 2nd Round? - a team better then them.....

we're taking the 7th seed and knocking the Nets out in the first round. IMHO.

but that was with an injured jeffeson
honestly they are so much better than last year, i think they are the 2nd best team in the east atleast on paper, and the signing of mcinnis was brilliant

They've added McInnis, Wright, and Rahim, and lost Scally.

You're telling me that they're better than Detroit and Indiana or Miami?

That's just not happening. I'll tell you who scares me though - Indy. For what they accomplished last year WITHOUT Ron Artest, and now adding Granger and Suranus......they're my favorites to make it to the Finals.

I like Indiana and Detroit in the Eastern conference finals. I think NJ will get to the semis and beat Cleveland. I think Miami will have alot of problems this year. I hate that mix of players, and I have zero confidence that Shaq, and Morning will be healthy. And I think Walker will make some of the most boneheaded plays you will ever see. 4 players on that team that need the ball to really contribute but only one ball. I think the Knicks lose against NJ in the first round again but it will be a much more tougher series.

Ya, but whenever you have Shaq and Wade.....you're gonna be good. Shaq will have a "sit down" with any player out of line. I see J-Dub and Posey contributing, and Walker getting less minutes than he's accustomed to. Personally, I think that was a bad move on Miami's part - bringing him in - but hey, the more the merrier. If he plays bad, he won't play.

With a lineup of J-Dub, Wade, Posey, Haslem, and Shaq -- that's scarier than last year. I think it'll be Miami and Indy in the ECF. Detroit will make it to the Semi's, so will NJ, but they'll both lose. Remember, losing Larry Brown will relax Detroit's defense. And NJ improved, but they won't be dominant.

The Nets would have a pretty excellent offensive starting line.

They have a super-fast/athletic backcourt tandem of Carter/Jefferson/Kidd--- all three of them can do everything on the floor. Score/rebound/pass/post up/slash/draw fouls/hit the 3, you name it.

RJ/Kidd are elite defenders... Carter is at least average on D-- and is a solid steals/rebounds guy. (regardless, he's an absolutely elite scorer)

They're a little light on bruising big men... but they have 2 legit giants (Collins/Krstic)... and you'd think Krstic would improve his already solid production in his 2nd season (put up something like 18ppg/8rpg against the Heat in the playoffs). Cliff Robinson is a little ancient, but solid off the bench. SAR is still a career 20/10 type of player, and you can't discount that.

This is a team that can out-finesse almost any team in the league. The sheer athleticism of Carter/Jefferson makes for tough matchups.

^...Ya, in the regular season. But defense wins playoff games, and that's the one area where the Nets are lacking. Put them up against Indiana, Detroit, or Miami and they don't stand a chance...

Hell, as far as out-finessing teams is concerned, the Cavs may very well be just as good at doing that next season.

Carter has "average" D? Where are all the news clippings?

Vince doen't hardly ever play D. His entire game is offensive- minded.

I have to disagree the 2nd part. On the first part yes. But the Cavs are in the same league as us, they are not very good, they are just decent.

The Cavs have Lebron James......end of story.

And no, they're not in the same boat as us. Maybe last year, but this year they're comparable to the Nets in that they have an offensively STACKED starting 5 (I'm assuming they land Damon Jones), but not very deep defensively.

Obviously, I give the Nets a considerable edge over them, but the comparison is still there. That said, the Knicks are still behind both teams...

Oh, and as for the playoffs, neither will make much noise. I can't possibly see NJ making it past Indy, Detroit, or Miami in the 2nd round...
