7 days...

Is anyone else surprised the Knicks haven't moved on this yet? There must be some serious consideration going on about keeping Allan. With all of our other high salaries they can be creative in deciding who to let go and possibly trade (TT and Penny) to get closer to the cap this year. I'm not counting Allan out yet.

If I'm Dolan, I'm cutting Penny. You save just as much luxury $$ THIS year, and next year, when Houston is an expiring contract, you can still move him.

The other thing to consider is that, there's still the remote possibility that Houston will get healthy enough to contribute. If he does, that bears well for us, especially in 06, when teams might be willing to trade for him simple b/c he can still play AND has an expiring contract.
DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

we have to cut someone, but not necessarily by the amnesty deadline. we can apply the amnesty rule to shandon's contract so we save something, and jsut cut someone after we see what we have in training camp, probably houston or penny, or butler.

I agree. Use Penny or Shandon's contract. I think this is the best option for the NYK if we are talking about basketball and not saving Dolan some money.

Hmmm interesting thoughts - I didnt realize it could apply to Shandon...and Penny doesnt seem happy here. I say give H20 a chance to come back because he has more talent then those 2 at this point (and Shandon cant contribute for obvious reasons). If there is a remote chance he can come back then take the risk and use the amnesty on Penny or Shandon.

This rule was hand-crafted to bail out teams in cap/LuxTax hell like the Knicks. I hope on wrong on this, but it's turning out to be one of those cliffhangers again.

I really thought they'd pull the trigger early on this. I believed both then and now, that Allan Houston will (and should) get waived. We're moving in another direction and have already filled his spot.

It's just time to move on. 7 days and counting...

Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

I shocked that there's been no news of Allan's come back progress- to me, that says one of two things

its bad, he ain't ever coming back

or, he's so focused and no one wants to distract.

I still say, Axe Penny, even if Houston can't move, he can still be a steve kerr spot up threat. Penny by now should realize he can do very few things on the court and should have looked at developing a legit outside shot.

I think Allan stays but Penny gets axed.. C'mon Allan is Dolan's boy. The owner will tell isiah that Allan's off limits even though he's injured..

Penny 's been a nuisance to the team ever since he got here..

I'm not sure who we will amnesty, there's always Mo Taylor and his redundant none-defense playing $19mil behind. Although Larry employed Corliss for a year for his instant offense he may do the same with Mo. Shandon is another favorite of mine to get cut but cutting him doesn't even free up a roster spot. Penny or Allan.. i'd cut Penny and save Allan for next year.

As to being surprised that Isaih and Dolan haven't made the move yet?
There could be a lot of serious internal discussions going on about the direction Larry wants to go in. There could also be another reason: Why show your hand before you have to? Announcing Allan being cut, might prompt NJ to go after him right away, instead of going out and getting someone else. The longer Allan is off the market, the less time the enemies have to prepare.
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

This week is traditionally a big week for season ticket sales (schedule is out, renewals are already in, etc.). You'll notice more advertising for tickets and things of that nature which leads me to believe they'll wait until next week to make the cut in case there are any Houston fans out there since cutting him would not inspire anyone to go buy seasons.

As far as the idea of cutting Penny or Shandon's contract, I completely agree. Again everyone has to remember the only one who benefits from Houston being cut is Dolan and I'm not worried about Dolan's money. Houston could get healthy and contribute in some manner or become a valuable trading chip. Like someone else wrote, purely in basketball terms we should absolutely not cut Allan Houston.

Shandon's deal saves you $15mm and you lose nothing. I'm not going to sit here and say Houston or Penny are going to play a valuable role, but at least there is a player attached. That means maybe they play, maybe their contract is trade fodder... who knows. I do know that Shandon is nothing but blot of ink on checks going out.

Dolan would rather save 15-20 Million than 5 or 6...

including butler, though, we have 16 players on our roster so someone has to go. i can see us using the amnesty on shandon's contract, but we do need to dump an actual player at some point, or houston can retire.

Ralow, are you kidding, try the past 4 years. Go to nyknicks.com right now and see for yourself - season tickets at dead center court in the 300s are still available. There were a lot of games the Knicks didn't sell out last year, when was the last time you were at a game against a non-playoff team? Those never sell out anymore.

I guess I never considered the Garden a place where the team would have to worry about season tix to the point where they would hold onto Allan Houston just to get a few extra tix sales. Especially in light of the recent draft, new coach, etc. I could be wrong though...

I thought I read somewhere recently that NY was in the top 5 or 10 in overall attendance anyway?

Oh well, I think they are just delaying the inevitable just out of respect for Houston or are still trying to convince him to retire so they can have insurance pay. If that happens, I bet they cut Shandon's contract.
