someone mentioned this to me today and it's a possible scenario,

what if h20 retires? one of those i'll scratch your back and you'll scratch mine type of things. what if, based on his relationship with the organization, retires, and plays a john starks role with the team for like 10 years $20 mil to make up that final year that would come off the books when he retires?

then we can waive one of the following:

jyd ($12 mil)
rose ($18 mil)
mo ($20 mil)

tim and penny don't factor in b/c their expiring. likely waived player would be mo but then that means isiah would've just wasted $10 mil in cap # since he moved 2 expiring deals for him

the more i think about it, the more h20 HAS to retire.

he just has to. the NBA gift wrapped this rule specifically for us to dump him. dolan needs to talk to him and work this out. this would be the best scenario for all parties.

Personally, I don't see Houston doing that. He's under contract and he'll take his 20 Mill up front thank you very much.

I'd waive Penny just to get rid of his cancerous ass and to ensure that we don't use his contract to reel in maxed out players. If we're going that route, we should be using Timmy...
DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

it doesn't help with penny or tim b/c there probably won't be a luxury tax this season.

the people to waive are the following:

1. h20
2. mo
3. shandon
4. malik
5. jyd

DJ haven't the Knicks been trying to get Houston to retire for like a year now, and he said and I quote. "The only retiring I will be doing is to my bed." I still think they believe they can convince him to do so with a promise in the front office but he claims he has alot left and Grant Hill is his role model and blah blah blah....

If allan can't play, he should just retire and get his money up front, otherwise he gets it in 10 installments. Quite frankly, I don't know how this can happen as it might go against his contract, but thats a different point.

Many player do get installments, so it may be this way.

But if not, then its smart money to take the money upfront when ever possible.

But even under retirement, it still carries on the books either way. Its a possible wash as Allan could take 20% less upfront, and insurance pays the rest. While it counts against the cap, and possible tax, dolan is just paying the tax, not the salary! Then he waives penny, and he is ahead this year! And he opens up one more roster spot!

Then he only pays a smaller tax on allans final year, while insurance actualy pays the rest.

He can stay with the team in some capacity like "spiritual community director" for years working 10 min a year for say 2million per. Or he can do television.

But allan must not be able to play for this to happen.

If not H20 then I say Malik. If it doesn't matter this season than we would only save $20 million with H20 in his last year.

If we waive Malik we save about $13.6 million. H20 for 15-20 mpg would be way more useful than Malik. And H20's expiring contract would be worth more as well. I think we have 0 use for Malik rose on this squad, he is a smaller, less talented version of JYD.

Waive Malik Rose, and I mean that with no malice, I just think its the best thing to do considering the options. Let SA pick him back up.

Waiving a player still means paying him! Unless he is the amnesty, he counts against cap.

Waive players that don't contribute. Still got to pay them, but they are useless!

I think if H20 retires the amnesty rule will be used on Shandon's contract, which we still owe $15mm or $30mm with luxury taxes.

We are still light at the 2. If Houston retired I dont see why Penny wouldnt come into camp unless there is crap left over from the end of last season
