Just as a preface.

I'm stayin outta this one. I was skimming through the Trade Board on RealGM and saw that PJA (one of the Forum Mods), had posted an idea to build a Larry Brown type team. Thought it was interesting.

Without further adue:


Trade #1(between New York, Portland, & Philly)

Knicks get:
Theo Ratliff
Kevin Ollie

Blazers get:
John Salmons
Mo Taylor
Jackie Butler

Sixers get:
Mike Sweetney

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE KNICKS:
Ratliff played his best ball under Brown. I think he could really help the Knicks defensively. He's that tough shot blocker they need in the frontcourt. Ollie adds more of a defensive presence in the backcourt.

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE BLAZERS:
They save money since Taylor's contract is a year shorter than Ratliff's. They also get two young players in Salmons and Butler.

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE SIXERS:
They add some beef to their frontline with Sweetney. He'd be a good backup for Webber at the 4 spot.



Trade #2(between New York, Minnesota, & Cleveland)

Knicks get:
Trenton Hassell

Wolves get:
Jamal Crawford
Ira Newble
Sasha Pavlovic

Cavs get:
Troy Hudson(once his BYC is relinquished)
Fred Hoiberg

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE KNICKS:
Hassell provides NY with a good defensive wingman in the backcourt. He can be Larry Brown's new Aaron McKie.

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE WOLVES:
They add a good offensive weapon in Jamal Crawford. He's a lock for 15-18ppg on a nightly basis. Newble would replace Hassell as the defensive stopper. Pavlovic gives them some youth to help build with.

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE CAVS:
Hudson gives them some much needed depth in the backcourt and some perimeter scoring. The same goes for Hoiberg.



2005/2006 KNICKS ROSTER:

PG-Stephon Marbury/Nate Robinson/Kevin Ollie
SG-Quentin Richardson/Trevor Ariza
SF-Trenton Hassell/Tim Thomas/David Lee
PF-Malik Rose/Jerome Williams/Channing Frye
C-Jerome James/Theo Ratliff

IR:
Penny Hardaway, Allan Houston


-This team fits the Larry Brown mold. The starting five can be a defensive force, especially if Ratliff can remain healthy. The bench is fantastic; easily the deepest in the East.

I'd like to think we can get more for Jamal than just Hassell.

I don't like either trade. We lose too much young talent with good upside and don't get anyone back whos young or athletic. If we trade those two players we better get back some young talent. I would much prefer to trade Crawford for Miles although my prefence is not to trade Crawford at all, but to trade Thomas and start Marbury and Crawford in the backcourt with Richardson at the 3. I say offer Thomas and a first rounder to Cleveland for Gooden and Snow. Our roster would look like this.

secondly, i know how many people can think of "turning" the knicks into a "larry brown type" team.

but he has adapted to every roster he has taken over.

he had ZERO defenders in clipperland yet took them to the playoffs. mark jackson, reggie miller, rik smits...not exactly GANG BUSTERS on the defensive end.

and then there's always the riley example of how you can coach one way, then COMPLETELY turn around and coach another when he went from la to ny.

so i don't think there's a "larry brown type" team persay. i think he will coach the team like he's always said he would, where the players would play up to their strengths and hide their weaknessness.

I agree with you 100%. LB just lets guys play their games, just as long as they don't get stupid. The only players he's changed even a little have been PGs, like when he made Steph a pure distributer in the Olympics and had Chauncey mix up his game. The Steph situation wasn't great, but Chauncey turned out wonderful. He was still a real good scoring option and he was a nice ball distributer. Other than that, everyone played to their strengths. I think with LB coming in, what we'll be seeing is a lot of player movement. You'll be seeing Trevor and Jamal in motion a lot, and I also think that Steph wont be dominating the ball quite as much. Hopefully Channing is able to compete right now, with his body, b/c his game would be a huge help. I think we'll also be seeing a lot of JYD this year, and less Mo T.

I agree with Bonn (Wowza) b/c with the first trade, we still have a lot to see from Sweetney before we decide what we want from him. Either way, I think he can turn out to be a way overall better player than what Theo is right now. Kevin Ollie is good for maybe 10 minutes a game at this point. Why give up Sweetney for that? Lets work with him instead and see him become a force in the paint.

And why would you wanna trade Craw for Hassell? What's the point of this? He's a defensive specialist for what, 10 minutes a game? Craw will eventually become one of the better guards in the league if he can control that shot selection and maybe even a nice defensive player, if they have him playing at PG (Or if he bulks up enough to play the 2. Both of these are bad trades.

forget about the fact that we ditch our back up SG/PG in crawford for a third string PG.

Everything else BigPimpin said as well.

No more cut and pastes from realGM...there is a reason they are on a different board.

I mean...our lineup is as follows:
Marbs/Craw/Nate
Q/Craw/Nate
TT/Ariza/Lee

Notes:
everyone has been saying Nate is a SG, however, in the combo guard style, having 3 ball handlers basically makes nate our #3 PG.

Lee played the 3 in SL, only to get him more playing time...I see him as a PF, and eventually we lose 2 PF's. Q will be playing SF so that gives us depth at the 3 as well. (I'd take Q over miles btw)

Now the front court:
the 5 headed PFs -> Lee, JYD, Rose, Sweets, MoT
two of these guys are gone.
Trimmed to 3 headed PFs IMHO -> Lee, JYD, Rose, Sweets, MoT (just my gut feeling today, some days I see Rose Gone, Some days Sweets, Some days JYD, some days MoT...however, I see Lee here for quite some time)

Center:
JJ, Frye, Butler

JJ starts the season, Frye sees extended minutes, eventually starts IMHO.

Butler (who is 6-10) will be in the NBDL which lets us play one of our many PF's at Center. (a direction the league has been headed in)

That's just how I see it.

My lineup would be:
Marbs/Q/TT/Rose/JJ to start
Craw/Nate/Ariza/MoT/Frye bench

and playoffs extended minutes roster of:
Marbs/Q/TT/Rose/Frye

But until we lose the glut at PF, it's all speculation. However, if there is a LB team, then Rose and JYD stay and MoT (biggest contract) goes...there may still be hope for sweets.

Once again...IMHO.

Isiah went on record about trading young players to get a roster of veterans. Per him it is about trying to win now and still rebuild. I don't think this franchise will trade one of their cheap players for more veterans. I think Isiah tried that path once and it didn't work. What people keep forgetting is that the Knick roster was explained to LB before he took the job and that Crawford, Marbury, Ariza, and others won't be traded. LB is just the coach and not the GM. LB mentioned that after his press conference. He didn't to join this team and make work with what the gm gives him. I mean you post a million times that Crawford will be moved... By who a phantom, the GM doesn't want to move him. Brown hasn't had any of these guys in a training camp. He doesn't know who his guys are.
