The Knicks are in the "too early to tell" pile. I agree with that. Not sure why Q doesn't warrant a mention.

NEW YORK

Key additions/retentions: Jerome James

For a team with no cap room, they managed to do something by snaring James from Seattle. He might help fill their gaping hole at center, but he also might revert back to being the second-tier player he was before last spring's playoff breakout. New coach Larry Brown desperately needs James to earn his money this season.

DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

Anybody who decides to start grading offseaons this early is stupid.

Not mentioning Q just pushes the point that whoever wrote this article is a typical SI guy, writes about like every sport, and knows nothing about any one of them to a suffcient degree.
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

^ Ya they were...

(with the exception of J-Will)

Also, the article says flat out "Winners and Losers of FA"

well, j-will, posey, caron butler, chucky atkins, eddie jones were not FAs. it also includes curry and chandler as retained by chicago, when there's nothing aside from rumors and expectations there. a sloppy article, but it is just supposed to be his opinions so whatever.

It was a poorly written article.

Plain and simple. Hell, Curry and Chandler haven't even been made legitimate offers yet (Curry's not gonna accept 1 year MLE).

In fact, I'd bet that Chi only holds onto Chandler, unless Atlanta doesn't offer Curry a contract and his only option is to take Paxon's MLE "Bull"**** deal.

Btw, on a side note: I'm always speculative of what Isiah does with this team, but to put it in perspective -- look at what West has done to the Grizz in a single day. If they're not rebuilding, and I don't think they are b/c they didn't recieve any cap space, then it's just not looking good for them.

Makes you appreciate what we got, huh.

definitely. it also makes me wonder if Pau Gasol might magically be available for Penny's contract and a prospect/pick sometime around February. Memphis will struggle to make the playoffs, even with the addition of Warrick and the talent level in the West going down.

^...I'm not gonna say how I feel about Gasol (and it's not good), but as far as him being available - just can't see it even if they're in last place. They're not rebuilding (that's obvious b/c they still have the same amount of dollars locked up as they did a day ago, and West seems adament about building around him.

But hey, stranger things have happened.

Winning with J will and Posey is not in the cards. They are shedding assets that have limited upside. To them, it was not worth paying up for swift. J. Will is not a team leader. I like watching him play, and on the heat riles and big daddy will stomp his act early. He will fall into a role player.

MIller, Pao, Battier, are a nice trio to work with. West is gone in a year. I don't blame the Grizz, its a process we shoujld have done years ago. Thats an old story!

I'm not a huge fan of Gasol either, especially next to Frye... but it's a trade Zeke has explored before so it seems like a possibility.

By himself Marbury was allstar calibre last season. We just weren't winning enough for him to get in. If we never slid after that 16-13 start then he would have made the allstar team.

Marbury had a great season last yr and thats not even the best he could be because he struggled on defense and on a lot clutch last second shots.

I don't know if Marbury & Larry Brown will work out and do great things. But I could see it happening.

Larry Brown will have Stephon and Jamal trapping opposing players in the backcourt in no time.

I think there will be a common equation for the Knicks under Larry:

No D = No PT

...and yes, considering we stay over .500 thru the all-star break and his stats are somewhat similar to last season, Steph will be a shoe-in to get picked.

Oh yeah, and N8 will win the Dunk Contest. Watch it happen!

Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

Lets see what happens the rest of the off-season before we grade teams. If you are grading for off-season, grade the trades too, and Q would have to be there then. Anyway, we have to see how this team shapes with Brown before grading this offseason. The KT-Q+Nate was a great move but we have yet to see how it affects our season. Signing James was good because we needed a C, but it can become a great one of a terrible one depending on Jame's play. He could become a good C like the one the Sonics saw in the playoffs or the underachiever of the rest of his career. With us, it depends on how things shape up because everyone has big question marks. And we don't know yet if Isiah will make another move before the season starts...
