Knicks Sign Jerome James

NEW YORK, August 2, 2005 -- New York Knickerbockers President of Basketball Operations Isiah Thomas announced today that center Jerome James has been signed as a free agent. As per club policy, terms of the deal will not be disclosed.

James, 7-1, 280-pounds, averaged 4.9 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.39 blocks in 80 regular season starts for the SuperSonics last season, and in addition, averaged 12.5 points and 6.8 rebounds in 11 NBA Playoff starts. The Tampa, FL-native recorded double-figures in eight of his 11 playoff appearances, and averaged an impressive 17.2 points and 9.4 rebounds versus Sacramento in Seattle first-round 4-1 victory.

it would be nice if it's 23 so if we do get lebron, people can still use it

We should be following the Mavs. We have James onboard - great. Add a little bit of legit young talent, and surround them with legit veteran talent.

No more Mo Taylors. And by the same token, no D. Miles.

JYD's - OK in my book. Ariza - OK in my book.

Isiah - ^ That should be your framework.

DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

he's our guy now. I have Deke like expectations. I think there will be games where he's either a DNP or 5 minutes and out. I think there will be some (mostly) ho-hom games where he gits a few buckets and grabs a few boards, but I think he will have a legit 10-15 games where he's a real impact and just wreaks havok. Your 18 point 12 reb 4 block type night on 6-7 shooting and 6-8 FTs and that will translate into wins. The rest of the time will be Frye getting his feet wet, and JYD/Rose playing hard and diving on the floor

realistic expectations. anybody expecting more than the 5/5 player at 20 mins a night over the course of the season will probably be dissapointed. but we'll see how it turns out. but just by his mere presence, it should change our defensive outlook for those 20 mins at least.

I am expecting something like a 10 pts 8 rebs and 2 blocks a game. I guess I am going to be disappointed.

you're not the only one dawg. I think he found himself in the playoffs last year. He finally discovered that you can't try to block every shot and pick up fouls. Thats why he was able to say on the floor and average 18 & 10 in the 1st round last year. with Larry Brown coaching especially, I'd be shocked if he averages his usual 16mins, 4pts 3rebs 1.5blks

Odd that they gave away Malik's #. I take it we have an unannounced trade.

Who are you and what have you done with Bobs?

Seriously, it'll be nice to see an actual center. Not a monster, but someone that doesn't make you cringe when they touch the ball in the post (deke) or get manhandled defensively by a taller or stronger center.

I'd LOVE a double double (ala Kurt)...I think he's better than Nazr. IMHO.

I predict he will average 25-28 minutes a game and average 10/7.

All because of LB and Aguirre.

32 is Herbs old number, right?

I hope he can come in and really shock the world. The dude has all the tools to be a force. It's not like he doesn't have moves. He has a decent jumper whether facing up or out of the post. He passes well and he plays real defense.

All he need is confidence. I'm rooting for this guy. I wanted him to be a Knick for the longest time. I really hope he can make it happen in NY.

edit: Here is a quote that jumps out at me from his press conference today.

“The Knicks are the best move for me at this point in my career,” said James. “I wanted to get to another level. In the past I’ve been very comfortable in a supporting role but I want to hold myself more accountable not only to the game of basketball but also to an organization that wants more from me.”

With all this Kool Aid.....I think I'm gonna need a bigger cup!

I dont see him as a big time scorer. I would be happy with 8 rebounds, 2 blocks and a wide body for 24 min a game. Give me 6 pts and he's making his paycheck to me.

right now, the top scorers on the team are going to be

Marb
Craw
Q
TT
Sweetney

I'd be surprised if JJ can average more than 10pts a game- I think on most teams, your sixth leading scorer isn't going to be above 10pts per game.

If he can give 8 & 8 & 1.5 and like Fish said, have an impact in games- either for 12+ games a year being a major force, or just being a force during a game, such as blocking a shot in the last minute of a game or half- that will help.
