RealGM - Reports are beginning to come in that Joe Johnson intends to sign an offer sheet from the Atlanta Hawks .

Johnson is a restricted free agent and the Suns will have seven days to match.

The Suns have made a series of moves this offseason which indicate that they intend to match any deal Johnson receives. [READ]

DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

If I am the suns and they want JJ that badly I force them into a sign and trade, but I think they'd have to give up their whole roster to match a max contract. Bring a third team into it, but they can't let him go for nothing.

Phoenix is really thin at SG. They have Jim Jackson who is good off the bench but not a great starting SG. They also have this years pick Dijon Thompson. They obviously did not expect this to happen. If they had, they would've never traded Q. That trade really hurts the Suns now.

They should've made sure Johnson will resign there before trading Q! If something like this were to happen in New York, the media and some negative fans would have killed Isiah. The Suns management really f**ked up on this one.

just because he asked them not to match doesn't mean they wont. They probably will, they really have to.

good point but that will upset Joe. Can they afford to have an unhappy guy on their roster? That might disrupt their chemistry. Phoenix is in a tough situation.

he'll have a max contract, on a winning team, I really doubt how upset he'll be. He'll get over it.

You are right. All his reasons to sign with the Hawks are pretty stupid. Doesnt want to be the 4th wheel? I'm sure time will heal his wounds. Especially if the Suns will match.

the article said: Johnson told ESPN.com that the Suns still plan to match the offer, although a sign and trade could develop and would not have to match in salaries because Atlanta has cap room.

If I am the suns I ask for Josh Smith and Al harrington, hes expiring and if he works out he can re-sign cheaper. Josh Smith would be a nice piece for them and he'd fit in well with all that running they do.

Looks like the Suns are in a tough spot. At the same time, it is only Joe Johnson. If they lost him, I think he's replaceable (not necessarily easily, but he is replaceable).
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

He asked them not to match, but he also said if they did match, all the negotiation stuff would be water under the bridge.

What's likely to happen is the Suns match Atl's offer sheet, but probably won't keep a player that truly doesn't wanna be there! Look for a sign and trade to happen...

Maybe something like Josh Childress, Tony Delk and a protected 1st rd'r for Joe Johnson. Then Phoenix probably goes hard after Michael Finley, If he is a casualty of the amnesty provision

IF I am the Suns I match JJ offer and ask the Commish to rescind the Q deal, they could have gotten alot more for him and could have done a sign and trade with Atlanta for JJ to get Stoudamire.

Hey if they rescind the trade then they say F Stoudamire because they got Nate now.

I don't think there will be an amnesty provision. However, if they lose Joe Johnson, and Finley wont be available, a player they could consider is Latrell Sprewell. Heck, even if they retain JJ, they should sign Sprewell, put him on the bench and increase that depth that the Suns were lacking last season.

Nonetheless, I think they SHOULD match any and every offer for Joe Johnson. That's what they cleared up all that capspace for, right? Not keeping him would be a big big mistake, unless they got someone like Josh Childress in return (As JayNYC mentioned). I really don't think they should break that chemistry however.

Nate already signed with the Knicks anyway. Is there really a possible way they can actually do that?

So Joe Johnson is telling the one of the most exciting teams in the NBA who also happened to have earned the best record in the league that he doesn't want them to match a max contract offer sheet from one of the worst franchises in all of sports because he's hurt over the way negotiations have gone?

This reaks of spin. mostly likely from the Hawks trying to make JJ look bad. However, if it's actually true JJ would probably have to receive a certifiable fool award. Or, of course, he really hated playing on the Suns and REALLY wants to play for the Atlanta Hawks....wait, I gotta repeat that again...he really wants to play for the Atlanta Hawks...

LOL

***waiting for the poster to tell me how GREAT the Hawks are going to be because of Josh Smith, Al Harrington, two "promising" rookies and a roster that won 13...count 'em...13 out of 82 games last year...ooooooooooh.....aaaaaaaaaahhhhh***
