unless an absolute no brainer type deal comes along (for brand or gasol), i think we may just be content in letting those deals come off the books.

why do i think that? b/c if you let those two deals come off the books, then the only real big $$$ player after 07 would be marbury. so if it doesn't work out with him, we can try to move him and get near or under the cap then.

by NOT using tim or penny this year, and letting them expire, and letting LB see what we have here for the entire season, we'll still have mo and jyd's deals to use NEXT summer after we have a better idea of where we are as a team and how everyone fits.

couldn't agree more.
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

exactly because most likely the only disgruntled player that we'll be able to get will be a guard like baron davis who are a dime a dozen and we have no need for. Teams don't trade the Brand, Gasol, Randolphs of the world for expiring contracts. Maybe Boozer is the only big we have a shot at

Tim and Penny should be waived - to remove any possibility that they are traded for some overpaid hack. Plus you get two extra roster spots. You can't get the best talent when you're strapped financially. Unless you're planning on getting Lebron or Duncan via expiring contracts, that road just goes deeper into oblivion.

I totally agree. The new do-over rule of cutting 1 player so that it doesn't get used on the luxury tax should be Penny and not Houston. Then you have another HUGE expiring contract next year. TT...let him play his contract year and then let him go.

You don't make such a big deal about expiring contracts being such a great asset and not use them. I find it highly unlikely that he just lets the two of them expire. We'd still be over the cap anyway. You think Isiah's not going to be adding payroll from now until 2007? Be serious.

If they use the amnesty for Houston I would be very surprised based on the fact that he'd be a huge expiring contract in 2 years. It would be highly contradictory if they do it. But that would be nothing new.

and he's not that big btw.

trade them if something great can be done, otherwise, let's them walk.

at least, people will stop talking about our bloated payroll.

Yes- you waive Penny, save tax dollars this year.

If you can move TT, great- if not, allow him to expire.

If allan can do anything off the bench this year, great- otherwise, you have his deal on hand for next year.

I don't see both TT & Penny getting moved for deals- unless its something stupid like for KG or Finley & Dirk- and I don't see that as a likely possibility.

or try to trade for Grant Hill, use his services for 2yrs then you have his as well as H20 & Taylor's expiring contracts to use at 2006/07. Hopefully then someone better than Boozer or Francis will be available.

is there going to be a luxury tax this year? because if there isn't it is completely pointless to wave penny since it won't save us money. in fact it isn't really worth waving houston if the tax is only going to be next year because that 20 million dollars will be shipped (possibly) for an expiring deal.
