there should only be ONE reason to move steph and that's to get cap relief. and there's only one team DESPERATE enough to take steph's deal back and that's atlanta (after striking out year after year on free agents). trade him to atlanta, get a pick or two back, and call it a day.

then in 07, our biggest deals would be tied in with craw and Q at around $7/8 mil.

that would be true....but atlanta won't take steph (more than likely), and with Brown here, Marbury wouldn't be traded until next year at the earliest...
DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

i also said crawford best role would be PG.

and i said IF IF IF...i didn't say i would do it.

moving craw doesn't do jack for our cap situation. moving steph does.

I think Marbury, Brown and Isiah will try to make it work first. I don't believe all this negative press about Brown and Marbury. I would be really surprised if Marbury goes. I really don't see it.

just an fyi, this isn't realgm where people diss each other or make posts like "IBTL" or crap like that. andrew and martin do a great job trying to keep this board more about quality over quantity.

there's some good discussions going on here and i think you can see that. just b/c people don't agree, you don't gotta make a post like this.

now back to the top at hand - i wouldn't do this until the deadline AT THE EARLIEST. i agree with all of you, i think they'll try to make it work. i merely suggested IF they do consider trading marbury, then it's our GOLDEN opportunity to get near/under the cap. moving anybody else doesn't really make a dent in the cap since marbury's $20 mil is still on it from 07-09.

well said about that first part.

as for getting under the cap - it's a possibility, but I think Isiah will look to add some sort of final piece at the deadline with the expiring deals (Tim, Penny, even Sweets) rather than torpedo Marbs. And when Tim and/or Penny get traded we'll be that much further from the cap again. It'd be interesting, but I think having Larry here signifies that Isiah is going to go for it.

I guess you're right, but trading Steph right now would be such a bad move. I mean such a bad move. What is the ceiling for a team like this with Larry Brown as our coach? I would say high, especially depending on what he can get out of the rookies and Big game James. I wouldn't change such an important piece now, because I think we can really challenge some teams next year.

I just don't buy that Chad Ford stuff. Within the past 12 months, Dallas spent $73 mil on Dampier; GS spent $70 mil + on Van Exel and Adonal Foyle; Orl spent $55 mil on Turkoglu and Cato; the Celtics spent about $70 mil on Mark Blount plus Ricky Davis; Utah spent $50 mil on Okur; POR spent $80 mil on Theo Ratliff plus Darius Miles; Philly spent $80 mil on Chris Webber plus Jamal Mashburn

None of these players is better than Marbury. Most are severely inferior, although a few might debatably be near his level (like K-Mart). There's no reason playoff teams wouldn't spend $76 mil on Marbury when they spend that much on severely inferior players.

you're right, but if we trade steph to any of those teams, we'd have to take a big deal in return. so atlanta is really our only option. and they are DESPERATE.

who are we going to move steph for? We'll get nothing but an unwatchable team for two years. When we get cap relief, whose gonna want to play for us?

I've said this before.. Buy low sell high. Everyone wants to deal.. Crawford, Steph, Tim Thomas, Sweetney, etc.. and their values are really low because of our season. Why not just wait and win, then see what happens. Personally, I think Tim Thomas and Crawford are going to have huge years coming up. Brown has an aura of accomplishment that these guys will respond to. Thomas will be dealt near the deadline to help a contender, he and bring cap relief. No one will be talking about trading Crawford when the season rolls.

At the end of the Olympics Steph had responded to Brown and was playing well. A reminder to those that forgot:

At the beginning of the year he was passing really well, getting people involved. Then the team quit when Craw went down, Allan was hurt.. TT was mess. It was worst case scenario. This year will be different.

I think Brown's gonna get Marbury his HoF credentials. The stats are already there, but he has a lot left to prove. Brown will get him there.

Just for the record - that's the 2nd time I've ever said that. SECOND.

Why should it be locked? B/c we've gone over this way too many times for it to be brought up again. Trading Marbury would be a HUGE mistake on so many levels, and I don't have the time or energy to get into it.

Why bring in a HOF coach, with only a few years left in him, and then trade your best player???????

just for the record, your not obligated to respond to every thread either. Its ok to feel something is redundant or just not worth your time and simply not reply.

Its July, this is a Knick forum. There's going to be some stuff that gets redundant

I'm being a jackass?

You mean b/c I disagree with all of you saying Crawford is a keeper, and I back up what I say?

Or is it b/c I believe that Marbury won't be going anywhere with Larry in town, and some of you would rather dream than live in reality?

Ok....then I guess you're right buddy. I really am a jackass.
