Larry likes 8 players, with one seeing spot duty. I'm saying this based on watching all the teams I have seen him coach. He's uber anal about consistancy, and we know he's a control freak as well and wants to know exactly what he's getting.

He will use training camp and preseason for guys to earn their way into the rotation regardless of money or draft position. I can see him using 9 players, but no way he uses 10. Which leaves us to wondering who those 8-9 players will be. Since summer is here lets start the speculation.

Here's how I see it to start the season:

In the rotation or starting:
Marbury: most talented player; easy one here
Q: yes he's a chucker, but his size and rebounding will ensure a solid bench role at the very least
Ariza: he's young and erratic but he's also commited to working hard on defense and the glass
----------------
Could be in, could be out:
the whole frontcourt: its a really a toss up. Does LB want to go veteran and get rebounding and defense he can count on? Thats good news for Sweets, JYD and Rose. Does he want to really run, push the ball and go young? Good news for Frye and Lee, maybe David wont be in the NBDL to start the year. Does he want scoring and space? Big game James and Mo T sure hope so.
Nate: tough and intense, but small and will need the ball in his hands with some frequency to be effective.
Crawford: can he create for others and pressure the ball? Can he focus on the midrange game and getting into the paint? If so he could do well
----------------
I'm packing my bags, ready to go...
Tim Thomas: Sorry TT, hard to image you earning your minutes and you WILL have to earn them.
Mo T: coming into camp out of shape will quickly make him PF #5 on the depth chart. Ouch

Forget about guys I like, I think Larry B will start the season with something like this (if the roster is status quo)
pg Marbury
sg Q
sf Ariza
pf wide open, but I think he settles on Rose
c Jerome Big Game JAmes, size
bench: Nate, Crawford, Sweetney, Frye
out of rotation to start: JYD, TT, Mo T, Lee

Everything is subject to change

Larry has to find a way to develop Frye, quickly if possible.

Now that LB is onboard, let me say this I had a problem with his coaching style since the Olympics right up to game 7 of the finals. I think Marbury and Iverson proved to be correct that, Brown and Pop was force feeding the ball too much to Duncan. Keeping Sheed out of the 3rd quarter because of foul trouble and trying to hide him from getting technicals backfired. Now that said, welcome.

Brown is getting an unfair rap for not playing rookie due to Darko. Based on what I saw from Darko during SL, his garbage time games, the scouting report was way off on him. So right on LB.

Campbell, I can't believe is still in this league. I think he will retire the same day that Shaq does.

Ham, wouldn't want that guy to get too much of my minutes either.

As far as the Knicks are concern, I think Marbury and Q Richardson are no brainers, depending on what JJ will get alot of time. LB has had many of stiffs that had played for him over the years. I think Ariza will start over TT. Lee, JYD, and Rose will get major minutes. If Frye keeps up his attitude I think he will get big minutes as well. Don't know about Nate. He plays a little out of control, actually alot but he is high energy.

as long as he plays the 8 best guys and not play the guys who make more money like the previous coaches have done because they let the players walk all over them then I'm fine with it because I want to win!

I don't think he can play only 8 guys the way this team is currently constructed. I think at the deadline, however, we'll move some of the deadweight and we'll shorten the bench.

If he does play 8 guys I want to see...

Marbury, Q, Ariza, Sweets, JJ
Nate, Craw, Frye with Rose getting spot mins

I think TT has to get mins though because he is skilled and is in a contract year. He could really build his value up by the deadline with solid play and that ending max contract. Sweets, JJ, and Frye are all foul prone and we'll need to play more guys up front. Larry will stick with whoever is playin well in a particular game.

For the people who think Ariza will start over TT, don't bet on it.
TT, for all of his faults, is a much better player and scoring option than Ariza.
We could be the Dallas Mavs of the East.

i think there's an understanding between isiah and larry about this reclamation project...and that's it, a reclamation project.

coming to detroit, dumars wanted a coach to push the team over the hump. darko's PT was not an issue b/c they could wait on it. and after they got their ring quicker than expected, then darko was part of the picture already.

we are in a TOTALLY different case situation here. i fully expect the plan is for guys like craw, ariza, nate, frye, and sweets to get a solid opportunity. does that mean they'll start? no, but i think they are part of the regular rotation.

otherwise, i see ZERO reason in bringing LB here.

our hump is .500, not getting from the ECF to the finals. i think LB knows this, and i pretty sure isiah knows this. dolan was probably still watching sesame street with LB's kids at their meeting.

this is how i see it:

marbury
Q
tim
sweets (i have confidence in him)
james

bench: nate, craw, ariza, rose, frye

jyd, butler, lee and mo will get squeezed.

this of course goes all to hell if frye shows that he's not ready to man up on the bigger guys in the nba. if he ALONG with james are in foul trouble, then there may be problems. i wouldn't be suprised if we do make one of those dale davis type signings - a vet bigman to kind of hold the fort down in trouble situations.

but this is all djsunyc speculation not based on any type of factual information - as is the case with most of us right now.

BUT this is a different situation here and i can't see isiah's guy frye not get more of a chance than the others.

well... we just heard Larry say
"I believe in winning with defense, unselfish play, sharing the ball and rebounding"

Now which guys fall even remotely into that catagory?

NOT:
TT
Mo T

Frye has to play, really he is our most skilled Big. Now if lee plays evenly with guys like Rose, and JYd, you have to give lee some rotation time...

I read somewhere I think in one of the articles that he loves Nate Robinson. And is really high on Ariza to.
