I was thinking... This new clause in the CBA that allows you too cut a player from your team to provide Salary TAX relief but not Salary CAP relief.

Say the Knicks cut Allan Houston and he is picked up by another team, does his new salary count toward his new teams cap or does only his old salary count towards the old teams cap or do both salaries count against both teams cap.

The only reason I ask this is becuase imagine the Knicks cut Allan and then he signs with a a new team. Somehow someway during the season the Knicks say, we need a shooter, lets try and get Allan back and they make a trade and get him back on the team so now in theory he will be paid 2 different contracts by the Knicks??? I don't understand.

you can't sign a player you cut under the Amnnesty rule. And the cut salary still counts against your teams cap.

Thanks Martin. The one thing I still don't get is that it only says you cant SIGN a player under the agreement, trading would pose a different a side of the story. It's not really pertinant information, I'm just curious

I am curious about Houston resigning with another team. He refused to play games for the Knicks do to an injury he says he is still rehabbing but he is talking about resigning with another team if the Knicks cut him. If Dolan wanted to get nasty he could try to have Houston's contract voided based on non-performance. I am surprise that Houston's agent hasn't put a muzzle on him.

I believe that you could resign a player AFTER he has been with another team. You can't cut him and resign him before he signs or plays with another team. Not certain of it but it would make sense from a legal standpoint to avoid playing games with the CBA.

the rule is clear on this... so long as the player's original salary is on the books that player cant play for that team. If Houston is cut he cant be a Knick until 07-08, regardless of trade or who he plays for.

There we go. I'm just curious Fish, where did you see that because I didn't see it anywhere in Chad Fords column about it.
