According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Sixers have resigned Samuel Dalembert. Another athletic big man is off the market.
We could be the Dallas Mavs of the East.

Terms were 6 years for 60-80 million. Big cash for him I think.

I don't understand how a team can pay a post player $10 million a year when he doesn't even possess a post move.

absurd

The hawks are out there driving the price up on teams, first the suns and now philly, I find that funny, but shouldn't the NBA adopt a rule similar to that of the NFL and baseball, a team should be able to designate a player a franchise tag, and if they lose him then the other team has to compensate with future picks. I wonder if this will stop teams from driving up the prices, because you are correct, that is way to much money for dalembert, a center who does not have any back to the basket game at all, and the same goes for Tyson chandler...

Don't underestimate a young guy who has shown the ability to be a double-double guy with 2+ blocks per game. He has the upside, has the skills, and is almost 10 yrs younger than Erick Dampier who was awarded a similar deal last year. I was kinda hoping the sixers would let him go to the Hawks since we can deal with the Hawks easier than we can the Sixers. Oh well. Maybe FRYE can be the next Dalembert. That's a BIG maybe.

i agree with what Tkf said.

These low budget franchises who know got damn well they are not trying to win anything---they load up their team with high priced bums---only to give them away at some point and time---just to do it all over again, and in the process they create a dastardly market.

Kam, you can't be serious. There is a difference between upside and UPSIDE.

Dwight Howard has upside. Dalembert will forever be what he is. At what point and time does a guy develop a post game. At what point.

tell me what he has done to warrant $10 million a year. name something he's done

Yeah doods were upset about Jerome James getting 5 mil per. Dalembert will be a good player but 10+ mil? Dalembert's ceiling is Camby when he was in NY. Maybe Dalembert will earn his pay one day.

It's just that teams are falling for the "there are no true centers out there" trend. Folye got paid because of it. The trend is slowly changing because the league has been getting alot of good young centers reciently.

Check out a list of decent centers across the league:
1)Kaman
2)David Harrison
3)Chris Mihm
4)Andrew Bogut
5)Bynum
6)Robert Swift
7)Brezec
8)Curry
9)Krstic
10)Yao
11)Magliore
12)Gadzuric
13)Fran Vasquez
15)Haywood
16)Brad Miller
17)Okur
18)Pryzbilla
19)Ha!
20)Dwayne Jones
21)Camby
22)Nazr)
23)Nesterovic
24)Nene
25)Chris Anderson
25)Lorenzen Wright
26)Mutombo
27)Foster
28)Ben Wallace
29)LaFrentz
30)Jerome James
31)Channing Frye

I'm just putting names out there but the glut at center is not that bad. Mind you not too many of these names can put up 20 and 10 but there are a few that will get close one day like Kaman and David Harrison to name a few.

So if Dalembert can get 10 mill.....what will some of these other guys with more talent offensively get? It's anoying to think about it.

Before I finished reading what you wrote I was gonna say I thught the use of the phrase post player was a little loose referring to him, but then you went on to make that point. thats waay to much, but I would have wanted him at a high price too. Not 10 million though.

It may be alot, but I'd still take Sammy for $10M a year over any of the bums we're overpaying for.

The market for big men is, by nature, inflated when guys like Jerome James and Gadzuric make 6mil per year on the low end, and then the mid level has guys like Kwame, Dampier, Camby making 8-10mil per year, and then the Elite big men like Shaq, KG, Duncan, Amare (soon) always get MAX deals.

Dalembert doesn't fit in the MAX group, he doesn't fit in with the low-end group, so you have to pay him what mid-level big men get paid.

You want to say he's only worth 8mil and not 10? Fine, but maybe the sixers were afraid to let the Hawks set the market and they gave him a better deal. Compared to what Cuban gave Dampier and Kupchak gave Kwame, and Isiah gave Jerome, Dalembert's deal looks reasonable to me.

also, on another note. I want to give props to Tkf for making a great point.

I'm not a skitzo, like simrud likes to think i am but more of a "no-nonsense get right to the point i don't care how much you love mike tyson he is a bum" type of guy.

see, you need people like me. so you can tell all your friends that he's the bad guy

ditto. every year, you have a team with cap room (a short while ago, the jazz) that makes the first sign. Then, it sets a kind of value.

I also remember when the warriors signed fisher and foyle to hefty contracts, it inflated every single contarct from then.

Dalembert has the tools to be very good. BUt that's a big price to pay. If he doesn't improve and only show tremendous physical skills, they're screwed.

Also philly is getting a freaking payroll, sonn they'll be like us, a bloated franchise going nowhere. time to trade AI to prepare for the future ???

Gotta figure a deal like that means Sammy has some "compromising" photos of Philly's owner and GM....possibly together....

I just think its funny how the owners were complaining about player salaries being too high, and how there was almost a lockout over the length of the deals and salary brackets, when the first thing like half of those same owners do is go ahead and sign questinable contracs with non superstar playres.

Maybe the owners should just communicate those same deamands they did to the player reps to their very own GM's instead of jerkin around the association every time the collective gargaining agreement needs to be extended.

I mean cmon, the Sixersn now have virtualy 3 max players, and are they going anywehre with no reliable 2nd option to an aging and breaking down AI, and a godawful caoch in Cheeks, who is Don Chaney's even nicer cousin?
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

Who knows what will happen then, but I dout we are ever gettin under the cap, IT has repetedly said that he does not want to be under the cap, and the Sixers if they keep spending like this will most likley retain Iguadola by giving him the max lol.

You never know what IT is really plannin thou since he has not said a word of truth in his conferences yet.
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?
