He's completely turned over the roster.
We are in a position to be below or near the cap in 2 years.
He's gotten us younger and more athletic.
Had two near slam dunk drafts.

and if he is able to get Larry Brown as our coach this year.

I say it's time for everyone to give him his due.

In less than two years on the job, he has completely righted the ship and pointed us in the right direction.

I say Almost time, because Brown isn't signed yet.

Thoughts?

If he gets Brown then I'll forgive him for the rest of the crap.

I can't let the "we are in position to be under the cap in two years" go though. We were gonna be in that same position regardless. Its just that 2 years ago, it was 4 years fron then, and now its 2 years from now. I'm not ready go give IT credit for makin 2 years go by in an incredible fast 365X2 days lol.
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

Guy, we may think alike of something. I wanted to say the same thing this morning. I got worried about speaking to soon and was going to wait till the begining of the season. Since you said it already, I think Zeke has done a good job as the Knicks GM.

I have been giving Isiah Thomas his due.

Most of those who don't are usually LayDown holdovers who have nothing better to do than hate on Isiah for the hell of it. He's been making improvments since he got here. Anyone not seeing that is a hater IMO.

Messiah Thomas will take his respect. Getting Larry Brown will only be one of the many ways it happens.
Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

I have to give props to IT too...at least he has a motive to his madness. Layden had no common sense what so ever.

signing brown would be isiah's greatest achievement to date as an nba executive. and that one signing can outweight many of his questionable moves.

the youth he brought in here i like.
the veterans, i'm not thrilled with.
but bringing in brown makes it easy to forget.

so far, imho, isiah has done a "C" job with this team.
getting brown, bumps it up to a "B+"

I've always given Isiah props for CARING. Some GM's aren't as passionate about doing all they can to make their team the absolute best it can be. That said, he's made 1 or 2 boneheaded moves since his tenure here. But with Larry almost undoubtedly coming into the picture, and with a great draft last month, I see no reason not to give Zeke props.
DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

Same here. For a minute I was getting scared, because Herb was in the verge of getting the coaching job.

Seems like just two months ago Isiah was being called an idiot. Last season was one of the worst GM jobs in history!

Now he is "messiah"?

I'll take the middle road and say ON PAPER he has done a nice job this off season. Ridding Allans Cap space will be huge down the road and accelerates the plan!

Last year ON PAPER Isiah has done a good job too!

If we roster most of the young guys, we must be patient as the team might not win 40 games if the young guys get major run.

We might not make the playoffs!

I would prefer we play the rooks, get one more lotto pick. Perhaps combining them to move up! Let the expiring contract die and refrain from any starphuching!

Kudos to Isiah for moving in the right direction! I don't generally break down each move in detail as I prefer to see the big picture, and that does take some time.

I think Isiah was always considered to be a good GM. The ones that didnt like him before still will not like him. The people annoyed about Jerome James might be converted when Brown is signed. There werent as many people calling Isiah a bad GM as there were calling him good.

Hardcore always called Isiah, Messaih Thomas. He came up with that nick name the same day Isiah was signed. It looks like he was right!

Anyone can just trade away, buyout or waive players at the rate that Isiah has done. But does this roster look like a contender anytime soon? Absolutely not.

In a position to be below or near the cap in 2 years??? We went from an $80M payroll to well over $100M and he's taken back hundred of millions in additional money in trades. Between Marbury, Crawford, Q and JJ we're near the cap for the next 5 years. The fact that you'd include this in your post leads me to believe that the rest of it is just more Kool Aid induced fluff.

Oh yes, the Isiah Mantra. Younger and more athletic. It sure worked for the Clippers didn't it?

A role playing SF and 3 unproven draft picks doesn't make for 2 slam dunk drafts.

If Larry Brown comes it'll be because of the ridiculous money that Idiot Dolan throws at him. End of story.

We didn't make the playoffs after another pathetic and disappointing season and you think the ship is righted and we're headed in the right direction? What exactly is your definition of "the right direction"? Mine would be becoming a contender and there's no chance that we're anywhere near that.

I remember that quote! Said he had Isiahs "back" too! Great line!

Last year's team really blew up in Isiahs face! I am glad we have changed direction and not tried to buy our way out! I think all along isiah had tried to do both by getting gazy retreads and start some youth movement.

In any event, the proof is in the pudding!

I like what It has done, but when I see people say we went from 80 mil to 100 mil it almost makes me sick, as if It induced the 80 mil that was already here when he arrived. The only reason we are at 100 mil is because It added young players, players that you try to sign if you are under the cap anyway. What is the fascination of being under the cap when you don't have a premier star available to sign? the fact that the knicks in 3 years could have a good young team on the floor with the 3 rookies, ariza, Q, marbs and craw, and a decent payroll is leaps and bounds better than the last 5 years we had to endure... IT's job is to put a good team on the floor, not to stay here for 5 years and keep us under or near the cap averaging 22 wins a year.... Whats even worse is that I want to play the young guys all year and watch them grow, and I would not mind parlaying our two picks, one which may be a lotto pick to try and move up and draft another impact player, and go from there, but the problem with that is all we will here is, the knicks suck, they were in the lotto again with 100 mil in payroll... that mentality is what kills me, and leads me to believe that no one is interested in rebuilding, but more interested in just complaining...

i said all last year that the only viable options that Isiah should target as our next head coach should be either Larry Brown or Phil Jackson...the last thing we needed was yet another interim solution like Mo Cheeks, Paul Silas, Bill Laimbeer, etc. like so many other posters were clamoring for just a few weeks ago.

if Isiah succeeds in getting LB here this year, i'll be more than happy to give him props...i've already liked his drafting of Nate Rob this offseason (the JJ signing & passing up on Gerald Green were mistakes in my estimation)
After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.

There's more to rebuilding than just collecting draft picks and questionable players with the MLE and LLE. Managing your cap situation is a big part of rebuilding and the fact that Isiah completely dismisses it is a huge problem.

It's up to $100M because he acquired a non superstar to build around in Marbury and had to take Penny's huge contract and give up 2 #1 picks in the process. He aquired a flawed guard in JC for $55M and even IT's most ardent supporters admit is better off as a backup. He acquired MoT and his ridiculous contract for no apparent reason. Just because he inherited a bad cap situation doesn't mean he gets a pass for making it even worse. Not that he cares since he constantly dismisses the cap as something that doesn't really matter.
