He is the key to our success. His contract can garner our team either a chance to draft a superstar or to a couple of players that can come in and help immediately. He has to go, because his presence on the roster is a deterrent..

Yeah but he also represents a chance to start whittling down our obscene payroll. i'd just as soon keep him and minimize his playing time or even buy him out. but i don't want to see us keep extending this crazy payroll situation.

There's probably not room for him on the roster, but I thought he played great when he was in the game last year--the Knicks always looked smoother when he was out there, he's a smart player.
And the reply is...a post that makes sense (still waiting)

Man I saw it differently. he kept trying to do things that he would have been able to 5 years ago. Now they led to turnovers, missed shots and fouls on him. i think he's totally shot as a player.

Penny is not a team player, he is a whiner and he doesn't need to be on our roster what so ever next year. I wouldn't buy him out, but I would trade him for a serviceable player and a pick. The more picks we is the better. We can always trade those picks to another team with need.
Trade Penny to Minnesota for slowpo Kandi, Cassell and a draft pick. It has been reported that Minnesota will not bring back Cassell after next season. With Penny, Minnesota can turn around and release him right away by using the amnisty. Cassel is no longer appreciated in Minnesota, so he is expandable. We can either buy him out or trade him to a team with need for a starting PG.

Why would Minnesota want him? Or to give us picks? I can see Penny and Mo taylor for S Cassel and W Szerbiak. That could work. But why would we even want Sam?
J James/ C Frye M Sweetney/ J Williams / M Rose/ D Lee T Thomas/ W szerbiak/ T Ariza Q Richardson/ J Crawford/ S Cassel S Marbury/ N Robinson/ S Cassel
Doesn't make much or any sense for us. We need a solid Power Forward and not more shooting guards.

Whoa. Penny/Mo for Cassell/Szczerbiak would be more palatable? Whahaha. At least throw in a bag of potato chips.
Like him or not, Sammy is one of the top floor generals in the NBA-- I don't know where he'd fit in on this team.
From MN's point of view, Penny would add depth and veteran play, Taylor could add some power (tho I see Rose/JYK as more desirable cuz of their defense)... TT would make a great reclamation project for them--- it'd give them a big athlete to pair up with KG.
Remember, folks, they're 1 season removed from being the most dominant regular season team--- they're going to want to bounce back with a 50+ win season.
Other than Wally, is there anything on their roster we'd really want? Kandi is garbage. James is easily his equal.
I think the Knicks roster is pretty good right now--- our main objective is dumping off some of our excess contracts.
