The Larry Brown/Detroit Pistons era is reportedly over. A buyout of Brown’s contract, which has three years left at $18 million, is expected to be made this week. Ex-Minnesota coach Flip Saunders is the leading candidate to take over in Detroit, making the waiting game that he’s been playing (basically turning down the Milwaukee job in the hopes of taking Brown’s place) pay off. The nomadic Brown wants to coach and should be able to do so without any compensation to the Pistons (although that has yet to be officially announced). What’s the over/under on many times Isiah called Brown in the last 24 hours? Tough summer for Herb Williams ... Almost two weeks after Nate McMillan abruptly left Seattle to accept the Trailblazers’ head coaching job, the Sonics will hire Bob Weiss, an assistant coach with the team for the past 11 seasons, as their new head coach.
