I was browsing through RealGM and it's pretty clear that Isiah would more likely than not still look to trade for Stro Swift. Only problem is that Memphis would rather pawn off one of their undesired contracts on us. Well, try this on for size:

NY Gets:

Resigned Swift (9 Mill per)
Lorenzen Wright

MEM Gets:

Penny
Sweetney
Boris Diaw
Future 2nd from ATL
Future 1st from NY (Lottery Protected)

ATL Gets:

Jason Williams

DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

Not bad. Would Atlanta want to give up a future (protected) first and Boris Diaw for JWill though? I know they need a PG, but I'm not sure of that.

Maybe we give up the protected 1st. Either way...

Yeah. I think if you take the 1st rounder then it is a fair deal for everybody.

It depends how they feel about J Will. I like him and I think he'd be perfect for the uptempo offense they ought to be running.

9 millions per season to Swift??? WOW, that's overpaying I think.

I fixed it so that we end up giving Memphis the 1st, ATL giving them a future 2nd.

Thoughts?

That's how much his agent expects and how much we'd need to offer to get him.

Well the only important player we're giving up in this deal is Sweetney. I don't know if I'd give up the first. But as much as I like Sweets, I'm ok with giving him up to get Swift and Wright (who has his uses).

I think Memphis only gives away this much talent if they're getting back picks in the package...

Sweetney, a first round pick, and Penny's expiring contract for Stromile swift at 9 Million per? For how many years?

I think Stromile Swift is very good backup and a solid starter in a pinch, but I don't see how this would be a good move for us. When it comes down to it, I think we will get similar production from Sweetney cmpared to what Swift has shown thus far in his career.

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!

memphis would let swift walk for nothing but something like this to make it easier:

sweets + jyd + #2 + cash

for

stro (S&T for $9 mil)

man, i hate giving up sweets tho. he's in stealth mode so far. and i think that's a good thing. i think he's serious about fixing his body and if he comes in all jacked up - then we may have a monster on our hands.

The addition of Lorenzen is okay, but he takes frye's spot or someone else we might try to develop.

Pretend for a second you're a Grizz fan:

A.) They don't want MORE unwanted contracts, they're trying to get rid of them.

B.) They want cap space.

C.) They're expecting a draft pick or two.

D.) They'd also like a young, cheap talent or 2 in return.

The reason some of you don't like giving up the Future 1st is b/c you're biased. You can't see it from their point of view. The deal isn't just for Stro, it's for Lorenzen Wright, who is a quality Center and would split minutes evenly with James. 9 Mill per for Stro is just about how much his agent will demand.

Hell, Atlanta might even have to fork over a Future protected 1st, too. The asking price is gonna be high for many of West's players, b/c they're valuable, just not in Memphis anymore...

Yeah, that's the market. People may not like how much these guys are getting paid, but the only other option is to not sign FAs and to not improve the team. I'd rather overpay a young athlete with high potential

That may be true, but if I can't use just my expiring contracts in a deal, I say forget it. This team is still likely headed for the lottery again in the next draft regardless of moves made this summer.

Isiah would gladly overpay for Stro, then head into another disappointing lottery season...
