It's a little early to decide that one. But at this point I'd say yes and no. What I mean by that is he's probably not going to be quite as tough and as good a rebounder as Charles was, but he will be a tough player,a good rebounder, strong defensively. You don't find many players as physical as Oakley. Lee does seem to be in the same mold, but not as good. He is much more athletic than Charles and has more potential as a scorer than Oakley had.

He can only be compared to other white players.

Since he is only 22 he does not have much upside.

If he was a Euro, he would have picked higher.

He went to college, so he must be flawed.

He must then be the next travis knight (of Uconn fame by the way!)

Lee's biggest potential upside is if he can play SF in the pros, where his size and physical style of play can cause mismatches. Not sure if he has the lateral quickness to defend NBA SFs, however.

If by the "next Charles Oakley", you mean play a style of game that is anywher similar...no.

If you mean will he ever have Oakley-type numbers...probably not.

But why not hope?

I personally think David Lee might be trade bait for Boston, who is trying to stock up on white guys as usual.

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!

Similar style of play.

Not as savvy, not as tough, not as good a rebounder, and def. not as strong.

But this is Oak we're talkin about. Give Lee a few years before you try comparing him to Knick greats...

Next I'm gonna hear Frye is the next Charles Smith...
DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

Nice, now we have:
Jackie Butler - Ben Wallace
David Lee - Charles Oakley
Channing Frye - Charles Smith
Nate Robinson - Spud Webb

We need a good SG!

Personally I'm excited about the budding relationship between Lee and Nate.

I know we've likened it to Coleman and Hasselhoff, but another image comes to mind.

When Lee and Nate hit the town, don't you think it could look something like this:

The player comp. I always thought of when I watched him in College was Scot Pollard back when he was in Sacramento. Relentless hustler and rebounder and some good athleticism. He was more of a PF/C then. Now as we're developing him into an SF/PF it'll be interesting to see what kind of player he is. All I care about right now is that he is bringing the same kind of intensity/energy/hustle to the game as an Oakley or JYD.

Lee is tough, physical and likes to hit the offensive boards -- like Oak, but that's about all they have in common, imo. Lee has a very good handle for a guy his size. Oakley had no handle. Lee has no shot. Oak was a very good stand still shooter. Oakley rebounded by being strong and relentless -- Paul Silas, Wes Unseld mold of rebounder. Lee rebounds by being quick, aggressive and relentless -- Dennis Rodman mold.

Most importantly, Oak had a great career. Lee is a rook who may never do a thing, but we can hope.

That's wonderful. Put a tear to my eye. Night at the Roxbury 2 Thumbs up for being funny yet stupid as all hell.

Very accurate analysis.

Well put.

No, Lee has more offensive upside, but will likely never be the defender Oak was.

They aren't remotely alike in anyway. Oakley was built like a tank Lee is pretty lean (he's a small forward in the NBA). You couldn't pull a sheet of paper from under Oakley's feet when he jumped, Lee can jump out of the building. Oakley was a very good spot shooter, Lee is not a good outside shooter. Oakley couldn't put the ball on the floor or create for himself, Lee's best attribute is his handle. Oakley not very quick, Lee very quick. Not seeing the comparison here.

Oakley right handed, Lee left handed.
