I heard the day before yesterday that Riley had interest in coming back to the bench. And now it was reported on ESPN in an interview with Ron Jeremy that Riley will indeed come back to the bench. He said it will happen.

So this would make SVG available. So how do you guys feel about SVG??? I haven't really followed him as a coach but he seems to be highly touted. I don't know if Isiah has any interest either though. But he would be best coach available.

I'd take a long hard look at VanGundy. Neither he nor Jeff are ex pros for one. Two, they both learned from the master: Riley. I'd look into it. I'd look VERY HARD into this if I'm Isiah.

While Stan has a different personality than Jeff I would pass on him because of Jeff. It would feel like going back in time.
Wouldn't Flip be a better choice if he is still out there.

Yeah, but something's telling me that Flip has made it known to the Knicks that he's not interested. His name hasn't been linked to the Knicks job at all. Not ever a shred of evidence that either side has interest. Being that we're in the position we're in I'd have to say that Isiahmore than likely inquired about his availibilty. Some say Flip is waiting in Larry Brown's decision as well. Rumor is that the Pistons may be interested in him as Larry's replacement. Rumors rumors rumors. But I hope Isiah IS looking into Flip as well as monitoring the VanGundy situation.

If true Riles should be taken out and shot.

Jeff and Stan are different people. Should be judged individually.

Herb has shown a lot of loyalty and been a good soldier thru all this and will likely get the nod if Larry does not materialize.

My thoughts exactly. He must be a serious candidate.

Is Stan Van Gundy THAT much of an upgrade over Herb? I like Stan, but I think, in all fairness, that it's down to Larry and Herb.
DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

Herb Williams is not even a real coach. Any college coach from NCAA Division 1 would be an upgrade!
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

Herb was an interim head coach who the press and some fans loved for his past antics as the team's most beloved mascot. The chants of Herb Herb ... They treated him like a special challenged person. I mean if he scored it got the biggest applause. While Ewing got booed for not completing a finger roll on two bad knees on a nite he shouldn't even played. Typical NYers... They loved the backup. I mean Herb is a ok guy but if Westphal is really available I say take him as the headcoach. This guy has a nice resume in this league. I wouldn't mind having him as the Knicks top assistant no matter if it was Herb or Larry. I can't believe that is an actual choice, Herb or Larry.

I like SVG. He's done a terrific job as coach in Miami. He can get players to play some D. Would he be the right candidate for the kind of team Isiah wants to build? I don't know, but good coaches can put plenty of wins on the table if they've got a modicum of talent to work with.

What a ridiculous statement.

I'm with you. He took a crap team, turned it around and took them to the playoffs. I was impressed.

I saying getting Stan would be too much like trying to get a substitute for Jeff. There woudld be comparisons ad infinitum. We have moved on since Jeff so why go back and try to recapture what is alreay gone.

"Pat Riley has indicated to Stan Van Gundy in reports I have received that he intends to return as coach of the Heat," ESPN analyst Dr. Jack Ramsay told the network on air Thursday. "I don't know where this leaves Stan Van Gundy, but I'm pretty certain that Riley will return as coach."

What great revenge Stan and the Knicks fans could have on Riley if Stan got the NY job!
And the reply is...a post that makes sense (still waiting)

If Stan comes available there should be no doubt we should pick him up. What he did 2 years ago with the Heat was amazing, he took over wiht about 2 weeks before the season, lost his first seven games and took the Heat to the playoffs and not only one in the first round (somehting that has not been done here for awhile) he took a really good Pacers team to 7 games. Plus adding him would almost certantly make the Heat/Knicks a rivarly again. Isiah would be making a mistake if he din't grab him up.

You guys are forgetting one important factor: He has to WANT to coach here!

I can see it now, VanGundy decides it's not NY that he would like to coach in an goes somewhere else and everyone comes here and says "Isiah dropped the ball on this". I can already see it.

i dont think it will be svg, i think that guys like shaq and zo want riley back, they dont necessarily dislike svg, but they want riley

i think its going to be herb, and its not a great situation. why--the knicks dont really want him there and the pressure to win may make him push wrong buttons.
