Chad Ford actually said that Jerome James was on his way out of the league until he resurrected his career in the playoffs. Chad doesn't lie. Wait till he gets a chance to bash the Knicks on this one

tms,
Why does it have to be all or nothing?? Why does it have to be very young and athletic or old, tough defensive minded?? Look at our team now. IT has done a good job of making us younger and more ahletic. Does that mean we can't have any players that are a little older and more defensive minded? I'm not thrilled but Malik got us David Lee and Malik can still produce effectively if we should need him and is a great guy in the locker room. He is not a cancer. Taylor, I understand your anger. Maybe IT saw something in him and likes to have him around in case young guys dont perform or go down in injuries. Not such a great pickup however. However, the Knicks need a center this season or a legitimate big body. James is not ideal but its not the end of the world? Would you rather go with Frye as the starting center? When the Knicks do eventually get a good center James will be a very solid backup. Until then, he will likely be the starter.

again, i LIKED Isiah's acquisitions of Nate Rob, David Lee, JYD, Crawford, Quentin, Marbury & Ariza...do you see a pattern there? they all seem to fall in line w/his plan...i'm not an Isiah hater...just call it like i see it...some of Isiah's moves have left me scratching my head bigtime.

ok, now that Briggs brought that to my attention, I would like to change my opinion. TERRIBLE SIGNING.

it all depends. they must realize that now he can stub his toe and start taking DNPs. look at his career, he has a nasty habit of missing a lot of games. he knew it was contract time last season, anyone who isnt drinking kool-aid understands that. were HOPING for what we saw in the playoffs, but that represents a fraction of what he has accomplished to date. if he plays 54 games avg 5.7 pts 4 reb 1 block than it wasnt worth 30mm$ he better play 20-24 minutes and 75+ to make it count$ wise--R or W?

hey, IT did what he said he was going to do, make us longer and younger, right now we have 8 guys under the age 25

craw
Q
sweets
ariza
lee
frye
nate
Butler

That is a lot of young guys to have on a team, more than half the roster... After we purge Houston and Penny we will have just 2 over 30 and this is jyd and rose...

not bad..

at this point, i would've been happier if we threw that MLE to ariza now so we'd still have it next summer.

but b/c of the new CBA, we're going to have to use that MLE for ariza next summer.

chad for on jerome:

SportsNation Chad Ford: (11:18 AM ET ) If James plays the way he did in this year's playoffs against the Kings, this will be a steal for the Knicks. If he plays the way he's played the rest of his career, it will be a disaster. The Knicks needed size. With Kwame heading to LA, this was the best they could do. As for Seattle, there was no way they were going to give him a five year deal after the last three years. The problem is that the Sonics have only two inexperienced center, high schooler Robert Swift and first round draft pick Johan Petro. That's not going to be enough if they plan on competing again this year. The Sonics have flirted with making an offer for Samuel Dalembert or Eddy Curry, but they'd have to renounce their rights to all their free agents to do it.

jerome james #'s

98/99 - 16 games 2.6 mins 1.5/1.1/.38
01/02 - 46 games 16.9 mins 5.3/4.1/1.54
02/03 - 51 games 15.0 mins 5.4/4.2/1.61
03/04 - 65 games 15.2 mins 5.0/3.5/.92
04/05 - 80 games 16.6 mins 4.9/3.0/1.39

the ONLY times he's played over 16 mins a game were in his contract seasons. last year was the first year he played a full season. WOW - 3.0 rebounds a game. he does average a nice block to minute ratio but according to zeke, block shots are overrated

We can use the MLE on him next year and get a nice role player at C this year. Or if the Sonics do a sign and trade instead, we can use the MLE on Ariza this year.

I don't like the signing but all im hoping is that. James can free Sweetney up the way Mutombo's size was able to.

I just checked jerome james has 2 double doubles in a 162 game career.

thats not a good ratio!
How many did Nazy have before joining the Knicks?
Also, I'm assuming that doesn't include the playoffs.
Also, how many double doubles do you expect a 15 to 20 mpg role player to have?

Nazr had a very good season in Atlanta one year where he averaged 10ppg and 8rpg after being traded from the Sixers. Nazr is a far superior player to James, even before he came to the Knicks.

Fine by me. The MLE is usually a waste. I'd rather keep one of own guys than sign some bum. How many good MLE signings have there really been? Not too many. Look around the league.

Look, Jerome James isn't crap, he's in the same league as Olowokandi and Dampier - in the categories of size, effort and heart. The size is nice, but the effort and heart are problems.

ONe thing I will say for James' stats: he was on a team that didn't suit his style AT ALL. On this team with Marbury, he'll get so many more open looks under the hoop at the end of drive and dishes, it's ridiculous. He'll score more, I hope he rebounds more too. If he can give this team say 9ppg and 8rpg in 20-24mpg, it's a solid move - especially if it's true that the Wizards were going to the Lakers deal even IF we offered Q. So, it's not a great move, but it can be a decent move. Will this guy work out better here than the cheaper, younger, more active Hunter? Damn, I hope so.

wasn't that for like 20 games and his field goeal percentage was about 70 pts (7%) lower than it was on the Knicks this year?

Nazy had the same problem until this season. It doesn't mean it will remain a problem.
