rain:My personal fear is that he and Sweets go on buffet tours of NYC.

That is too funny.

I love Jerome James. I've been saying for years this guys can play and he has big time starter potential.

Dude is 29 but for a big man that's not a big deal. He proved in Sactown what he is worth and he also played well in San Antonio in the playoffs. He showed a nasty side...."I give them no respect.....NONE!!!!" Oh yeah.

The only thing is his foul trouble.....he can't stop fouling out. He is a nice intimidator and he takes up space and punishes on both sides of the ball. He just has a nack for wacking someone for no reason.....then he is out of the game. Dude can really play guys. He needs a chance to prove himself in a new setting.....

It was obvious that Nate McMillan didn't like him because a few years ago in the playoffs when Baker was in Seattle, Jerome James number wasn't called and he actually was playing well whenever he was in the game.

All in all Isiah did a great job because Jerome James has the lazy tag and he deserves it but he has all the skills that a good center needs to be dominant. He needs good coaching and an atmosphere where the people around him believe in him.

We got our new big fella!

Take that Stomile!!!!

If Jerome can stay on the court, I agree that this will be a decent signing. I'm not convinced yet though that we are getting that Jerome James. Still though, 5 years for someone who isn't exactly "young and athletic" is pretty rough.

30 minutes a game, will eat up space , clog the lane, and he will blocks shots.
too bad because he's always to fat or injured he's never averaged more than 17 minutes a game for his career. Last year was the first year he's ever played more than 65 games. This sucks. Young and athletic my ass

And he was sooooo offended when he heard the Marbury for Dalembert rumors.

Oh well, at least he can throw some elbows in Jason Kidd's face
when he's driving to the hole. There's at least 1 positive.

After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.

Oh yes....throw them bows!!!!!

From this pic alone we have gotten better at the center spot.

Also as something to think about. Channing has to battle jerome James in practice!!!!! Ouch. Channing will learn really quick how to gain position down low.....most likely on his ass if he doesn't step up.

Gotta love the signing.

And the last I checked Seattle never had a reputation for developing big men...I think James will definitely flourish in NY.
And the reply is...a post that makes sense (still waiting)

There's no doubt in my mind that we are a better team today than yesterday. I like that Jerome is a physical player and I think he is an excellent shotblocker which is what we really need. However, 5 years is too much in my opinion. Like others have said, 2 or 3 years would have been fine. 5 years though? Thats a long f'in time. I think Jerome is a good player...when he is on the court. If this was only a 2 or 3 year deal, I would love it because even if Jerome only played 20 mpg, it would let Frye get some playing time while not forcing us to play him. Whatever, hopefully our rookies' effort can be contagious (That's pretty sad isn't it? The vets are suppossed to play hard so that the rooks will catch on, yet, it could be the other way around for us).

Lets say that what we can expect is what James did in the 2nd round vs. Tim Duncan/Nazr. That was about 8.5 pts, 4.7 rebs, 1.5 blks in 22 mins per game. If that's what he gave us, would you guys be happy?

For 5 yrs @ $29mm?

NO

JJ for $29mm is insane.

No.......

Signing Shandon, Eisley, Spoon and Houston to all that money was insane.

Isiah got Craw last year, Q this year, JJ now.....drafted Lee, Nate and Channing....

Things are shaping up around here.

Relax!

Did you know that a 39 yr old Mutombo had almost identical #s as 29 yr old James last season. In fact, Deke had 2.3 more rebounds per game.

MINS / PPG / REB / BLK / FG% / FT%
Deke 15.2 / 4.0 / 5.3 / 1.26 / .498 / .741
James 16.6 / 4.9 / 3.0 / 1.39 / .509 / .723

I really hope James proves that he's worth the contract.

I love these pics! He doesn't look like he is overweight. He is dunking and swatting on players bandied around this forum for awhile.

Maybe we can change his nickname to "Big Nasty"

Hey... people here are never satisfied.

People wanted Bynum, so now we've gone out and picked up a mature 10-year veteran Bynum. Now if only I could get a Jerome James scouting report from when he was in high school...

wait...

http://www.ibiblio.org/craig/draft/1998_draft/Players/james.htm

He never played in high school cuz his school didn't have a sports program! Alright, maybe he is no Bynum-- he's a below avg to average FT shooter (tho last season he seemed to show improvement).

Exactly, typical newyorkers...they bitched about Ewing when he was with the Knicks also...I remember that clearly.
