he's uptempo
he plays rookies
and players like his system and like to play for him

he's not the end-all-be-all of coaches BUT i think he would be a good fit for us.

with that said, it won't happen.

I agree. I can see him being very succesful as our coach. Sorry if this sounds dumb but why can it not happen?

that's fine - neither did pheonix.

it's all personnel and we don't have defensive personnel.

but his teams do play scrappy and hectic and run all over the place - and we have the personnel for that.

Don Nelson is one of my favorite coaches ever. There is no one more innovative at squeezing the ability out of his players. I like Avery Johnson, but I think the Mavs probably suffered somewhat from not having DN coaching during the playoffs while Avery was learning on the job.

But did you all forget that he already did a stint here in New York and was run out of town? Sure, that was a while ago, but he has aged since, had cancer and other physical trouble. In addition, his son is Dallas' GM (I think.)

I would be shocked if he coaches again this year anywhere. He probably won't coach again.

He was the first guy Isiah asked to coach when he arrived. Coach Daly said he really considered it but enjoyed retirement too much. I think I read that Isiah asked him again and Daly declined again. Age is a big factor.

Nellie took his gazillions Cube gave him and is back in Hawaii cha-chillin.

We did Nellie before. Patrick couldn't handle the truth in 1996. Nellie lost. Old story.

IN 24 hours we will know.

My guess is Larry gets 6 months to chill out while herb ready's the team.

After reading Starks' book I have a different perspective on Nelson. I doubt that he would be able to connect with the personalities on this team. He has a history of alienating players, even his stars (ie. Webber, Ewing, etc.). I think him and Marbury would be a match made in hell.

all he was trying to do was to get Ewing to handle the ball less since his handle was AWFUL. but thats what happens, you tell the star player to change his game, he doesnt like it, so the coach is gone.

I had mixed feelings about the Ewing/Mason thing, but it was clear that Nellie had to go when he benched Starks for Hubert 'I can't play defense' Davis.
