He's old, brittle, won't be here by the time we are good enough to contend for a title. I don't really want Herb back either...it'll be a lame duck situation with up-tempo and no D Westphal taking over mid-season. Bill Lambieer - now that's someone I'd want. The guy is a WINNER. He won as a player and won the WNBA title as well. He knows what it takes. His teams play tough. That's what NY should be about. Who do you want to see as the coach of the Knicks?
Larry Brown
Herb Williams (Westphal)
Bill Lambieer

this is a weird poll. If Larry Brown is able and willing, you sign him. Even if he only coaches for a year. He is that good.

Of course. Players will get much better under him, trade value up, etc. No brainer.

yep exactly. even if its only 1 or 2yrs. he'll get these players going in the right direction so that the next coach could step into a situation where the players play hard and like a team

He may be old, and a bit brittle these days, and he likely won't be around in 4 years when this team is ready. If its ever.

Brown will further this organization and build a culture by teaching solid fundamentals with these young players.

The only thing is we may go a bit more vet oriented and make deeper more profitable playoff runs.

The other fear is that we "starphuch" our selves with larry taking on the job for the 12 million and not being at the top of his game!

He'll do better with what ever we got, and sell tickets with a new buzz, but is it the real deal long term?

ONly if we stay youthful and he teaches and plays the kids!

serious...i can't understand why any Knick fan wouldn't want 1 of the best coaches in the NBA coaching this team, even if it's for 1 year...a guy like LB can instill an entirely different mindset into an organization...God knows we could use a different mindset in ours.

Larry is the best for our situation. He may not play younsters in a championship caliber team like the pistons, but in a rebuilding situation he's going to be a fantastic teacher.

I see him as a key architect for the resurrection of this great franchise. I WANT LARRY BACK IN NY COACHING NATE, ARIZA, SWEETNEY AND SO ON.

I wonder what he thinks of Marbury & Crawford.

Larry is a college type teacher coach. the players stop listening to him after 2-3 years for ego sake. But he can teach these kids!

Well, afterall he's the only coach to win NCAA & NBA championships. His record speaks for itself.

you guys make some good points, as far as him being good for the youngsters...and if we bring in Swift or Brown (PLEASE!), we'll really have a young roster to teach.

So I won't be upset to get him...but I just have a very good feeling on Lambieer being HUNGRY and feel that he's going to be a great coach in the NBA. I think if we hire Brown, it's a short-term solution, whereas Lambieer could be a long term one.

If you just want a guy to come in and teach for a year why don't we just bring Hubie Brown in?
And the reply is...a post that makes sense (still waiting)

LB's a better coach, & Hubie's retired.

not what people said.... more like, if Larry only lasts a year, it's still worth signing him.

What will Larry Brownbag cost (as far as compensation to Detroit)? How many years can we expect him to stay? Will he bring his assistants with him and what will that cost us? Would Westphal really want to work for Herb? Really? Shouldn't it be the other way around?

Sure, Larry will cost $$$$$, but that's not gonna impact our cap, so who cares? Dolan paid $$$ for Wilkins - for WILKINS!!!! And if he waives Houston, he saves $40 mil in luxury tax. Use that money to sign Larry.

If Larry is available and wants to coach the Knicks, why not??? but I still want Laimbeer as his right hand man if he is hired...If Larry is not hired, give the job to the best candidate (Laimbeer).

I am not talking about money, I am talking about picks. I think Larry is playing this right. Let them fire him. Detroit wants him to just leave so they can get compensation... I am not giving up any picks for a guy who may only be around for half a season. I rather let a guy like Collins coach this team or even Westhphal.

Yeah, i agree. Isiah is doing the right thing by letting the detroit drama unfold on its own. No way does Isiah want to give up picks. s far as Larry's health is concerned, Isiah will make sure that he is in a shape to commmit to the Knicks franchise. Otherwise, go with Laimbeer.

Larry might be a great teacher, but having a coach here for one year (or less) isn't good for rebuilding.

If its Herb or Bill, I want to give them time with this group- more than a year.

Look at a team like San Antonio- they've had the same coach and they develop players and they get better every year.

Look at Chicago, finally, after two years, the players started to respond to Skiles- now, they are in a good position to develop further.

I know Brown is good, but I think he's nearly done.

I wouldn't drink a left over glass of champagne just cause it was good.

I found it interesting reading Jon Givony's write-up on Darko's performance in the summer league. Larry Brown has always had the reputation of being great with young players. So maybe the problem is that Darko hasn't done anything to deserve the playing time. This write-up would tend to support that.
