Good riddance. Big Z, Gadzuric, and now him. Now we can turn our attention to what we REALLY need - size, experience, interior D, and good, but not necessarily freakish, athleticism...

My list as of now:

Nene
Magloire
Gasol

I excluded guys like L. Wright and J. James b/c I question their ability to play more than 20-25 MPG, when we'd need around 30 or more from our starting Center...

DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

Maybe this is why we're hearing more talk about Walker. I'm still, however, interested in The Stro show and also Hunter. They can both block shots and rebound but neither have a post game. Which, I guess, brings us back to Walker.

Kwame For Caron?
12th July, 2005 - 3:09 am
Akron Beacon Journal - According to David Aldridge, the Washington Wizards may already have their potential replacement for Larry Hughes in sight.

Sources involved with the discussions say that the Wizards are talking to the Los Angeles Lakers about a sign-and-trade deal in which forward Kwame Brown, the top pick in the 2001 NBA draft, would go to the Lakers in exchange for swingman Caron Butler.

The Wizards have other options on the table that could bring them a much-needed big man in return for Brown, but Butler would make a lot of sense.

Butler has been available during most of his yearlong stay in Los Angeles. If the Lakers move him and, as expected, release forward Brian Grant in order to save money under the luxury tax, they would have precious little to show for their blockbuster trade of Shaquille O'Neal to Miami. [READ]

Well this article just says they're talking, right? Nothing done yet.

Also, I don't really get where Caron Butler replaces Larry Hughes??

Well- I think Caron is better than Crawford & I certainly wouldn't offer more.

is it too crazy to think the lakers would trade Bynum and Kwame to us? I remember Zeke saying he tried to trade with the lakers to get number 10 and pick up bynum AS well as Frye.

Yes. I don't think we have the assets to get both of those players unless we give up everything we have. I also think the Lakers drafted Bynum to KEEP him because they truly believe in him.
If the Wizards are dead set against keeping Kwame, then Caron Butler is probably the best player they'll get for him (if Caron even was offered), unless Isiah offers Q.

If they can get Caron for him they better take it and run. I am not convinced LA would give him up for Kwame though. thats 15ppg from a budding young 3 who has star potential. He may drop 20 ppg next season!!

I wouldn't give up Caron for Kwame.

butler plays better defense than Q. the Wizards could definitely use defensive in the backcourt more than a one-dimensional SG. Caron can also score in a varity of ways not just 3-pointers and he can still get better. it would be a good trade for both teams and great for LA because they can see what Kwame can do and if he doesn't live up to potential its alright because in a few years Bynum will be ready for a championshop run with Kobe

Yeah, Caron is a better player than Q. Id do Q for Kwame, but not Caron for Kwame. Then again, I may have to eat crow if Q returns to his old form in the Clipper days - posting up and playing defense.

I agree with this. Even if Zeke wanted him, he should just tip his cap here. Caron for Kwame is about the best deal they could get.

So let me get this straight you trade Shaq for Odom and Kwame. Kupcake is doing a bang up job. That team hasn't been right since West left there.

I wouldn't trade Shaq for Odom and Butler either. But what's done is done. You can't change that. You have have to decide from the Lakers' perspective whether it makes more sense to move forward with Butler or Kwame on the team. I'd go with Kwame because I don't think Butler provides anything beyond what they already have in Odom, whereas Kwame still has huge potential.

Kwame may be a nice risk for the Lakers, especially with an already established game plan. Maybe it could be what Kwame needs. Who knows, but I don't really care. We'll build a better team and defeat Kwame, Bynum and Kobe in the Finals
