It's kinda sad some of you have this mindset that your everday Stephen Huntes and Stromile Swifts would make some sort of impact or difference on the Knicks. These are guys that, for their career, will not and have not seen more action than 20-25 MPG. Like I keep saying, there are 2 directions we can go this summer, and it all depends on the coaching selection. Being able to land Larry Brown puts us in instant playoff contention, just like Phil Jackson will for L.A. At that point, you go out and do all you can to land a LEGIT, banging, defensive-minded Center.
However, if Brown is unavailable, and Herb becomes the head coach, you'll see Isiah go with plan B (b/c there's no assurance that Herb can lead even a semi-good team to playoff contention), and go after potential in Kwame or Stro. I think you'll also see Marbury shopped at that point (or maybe you won't see it), and if not dealt this summer, then sooner rather than later.
Point is, the Q trade was a no-brainer. It can make an impact now AND in the near future. However, with Marbury slowly-but shortly nearing 30, and with his salary on the ups of 20 Million, keeping him is not a walk in the park. If you plan on keeping him, it's ONLY b/c you believe he can be a big part of this team NOW. For Steph, there isn't much of a tomorrow. Larry's arrival will mean more wins...and fast. Herb will indicate a slower, more normalized (and cap friendly) approach. Herb, being a player-friendly coach, would be given the chance to develop a young, talented core of players, most likely minus Marbury and plus a Kwame or Stro type.
But please, for the last time, stop with the mix and matching. You can't have Larry Brown as your coach, with Marbury & Co. still on board, and then have Kwame Brown as the Big Man you're leaning on. That would be a big letdown, ESPECIALLY on a team with only playoffs on their mind...
DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure.
And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.
