ESPN radio reports that the latest out of Detroit has their ownership getting ready to fire Larry Brown.

looks like Isiah might get his man afterall...now we'll see just how much of an effect having a good coach can actually have on a team's W-L record...i remember having several debates w/fishmike & Bippity about this last year...my stance remains that a good coach like Larry Brown can very much effect the way a team plays & that it's not always just a question of not having the right players.

combined w/the new additions to our team, if Isiah manages to hire Larry Brown as our coach, i'll have to give him an A- overall for this offseason. (the - only coming from passing up on Gerald Green in the draft, who i REALLY wanted)

If we do get Brown, then the sky is the limit for next year, I mean we do have talent for a coach to work with, it just requres somebody of true genius to utilize it.
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

Now you've got 2-3 sources reporting the same (the Daily News, SI). We'd be nuts to not to make it happen if we have the opportunity.

I love Brown, for sure he would find a way to turn Marburry into a winner. He did it with AI and Billups, he can do it with Marburry...However, I am not sure that he would want to come to N.Y.

I agree that Larry could win us more games but we still have too many holes but at least we'd be headed in the right direction. without Larry we'll be lucky to win 35 games with this team. With him we could win 40 and make the playoffs, gain valuable experience and increase the value of our players. Larry would get the most out of Stephon, nate & crawford the way he got the most out of AI and billups. Then we can hopefully trade Marbury for froncourt help.

if Larry is fired we don't have to give them compesation right? why would detroit fire him?!

Because Larry doesn't want to leave, and they are tired of waiting for Larry and have a deal ready with Flip Saunders.

If Brown is actually fired by the organization, that means we don't have to give picks/cash as compensation, right?

I agree, but isn't this kind of at odds with your signature?

wow thats awesome! getting Larry Brown for nothing! I was a little hestiant on Larry since he doesn't play young players but since I'm not in love with the 8th pick its not as big a deal anymore. And besides Frye will play because the guys behind him are horrendous.

No rasheed, ben & dice on this team!

I know, I don't want him to croak in the middle of the season or have to quit after one year. He's a great coach but I want someone who is in it for the long haul.
And the reply is...a post that makes sense (still waiting)

personally, i think he's intentionally hedging on the Pistons & subtly forcing their hand, but that's just my own gut feeling...i think he's wanted to coach the Knicks all along, & if this goes down, he'll get his wish.

I'll take it. the bottomline is we need someone to set the tone for these players even if it was for only 1yr

I'd love it if it happens. But has anyone considered the possibility that the Knicks might not be his first choice? I mean, the Sonics could be a pretty desirable job. The Kings have considered firing Adelman. Is this really such a foregone conclusion?

Larry Brown would be great, but our interior D is still going to suck, no matter how you look at it, unless Channing Frye just suddenly turns into the monster that he seems not to be, and we also have no clue how the perimeter D is going to be. We all know this though. If Brown coaches, and Marbury, Crawford, Q then 1 or more of those guys will be OUT.

Let's clear up one point:

Larry Brown has publically stated that coaching in NY (and UNC) would be his DREAM job. This has been repeated several times.

Here's my gut feeling:

Isiah wouldn't have waited this long unless he was banking on being able to land Brown. That's his first choice. Now, he realizes this team can go in 2 directions - brief rebuilding, or instant contention. If Brown isn't available, I think you'll see Isiah hire Herb, and trade Marbury (sooner than later). He'll try to unload a PF or two, and bring in a Kwame or Stro. Crawford and Nate would man the point.

The other scenario would be if Brown accepted the Knicks head coaching job. Isiah is smart enough to realize Brown, much like Phil Jackson, would put us in instant contention atleast for the playoffs. All Zeke would have to do is add a key piece (a legit big man), and let Larry do the rest.

When you look at the type of players Isiah took through the draft, it would seem like 2/3 are geared toward being solid role players, and 1 (Nate), having that certain star potential. I think he drafted on the premise that we could be going either way this year (instant playoff contention or brief rebuilding), and wanted to cover all bases. Nevertheless, I still think he's holding out for Brown quite simply b/c he favors instant playoff contention. That said, you won't see a Kwame Brown or Stro if Brown does become the head coach. You'll see something more in the shape of a power move. Although I think Kwame is certainly a better option than Stro or James (b/c he's athletic AND can provide interior D), I'm not sold on him having the poise and desire to do big things in the Big Apple. A guy like Magloire would fit far better IMO.

Anyway, that's how I see it...
DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

If LB gets fired from Detroit, and we don't go after him, no one on this board will care to mention Isiah being cautious about LB's health. It'll just be another reason whine, cry and act like the sky is falling.

The anal retentive will never fail to disappoint.

However, IMO we'll be able to get him. Isiah was smart to wait.
Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!
