Not bad for the Bucks, but thats a lot of green--you have to pay to play in this market.

they will add

7-1 Bogut
6-9 Lloaysa
6-6 Simmons
6-3 Bell
and TJ ford is coming back

They have been extremely active, they may feel that with Bogut the playoffs are very close. But first Redd and now Simmons to a lot of money. They must believe this is their year...

Simmons for 9+ million per? He's a nice player, but this market is CRAZY! The Bucks are sure throwing around the bucks
We will NEVER win with Marbury as our cameo guy.

With their core players being so young and signed for the next few years they have plenty of time for it to be "their year" but I think the Bucks will be the most improved team by far next year after signing Simmons. I would swap the Knick's roster for Milwaukee's in a heartbeat...and I never thought I would ever say that.
And the reply is...a post that makes sense (still waiting)

a couple things... when you see what Redd, Simmons and Hughes got I think Isiah did a good job with Crawford and Q. Neither of them are at that level yet but both could be and both are getting paid almost half.

That's partly because Milwaukee and Cleveland is a tougher sell than New York City.

craw, q, simmons, and hughes are all relatively on the same level as far as SG's go so yes, it looks like isiah did get our guys at a bargain - which sounds CRAZY coming from this team.

So this means they will have even less to spend for Gadzuric or Pachulia...

man, what do they do with desmond mason now?
if we didn't make the Q deal, then maybe kurt gets us mason and gadz.

i think they match up to the MLE for gadz and let zaza go.

I gotta agree. I've never seen an offseason where non-Superstar players are being offered such ridiculous signing sheets. Whoever thought Joe Johnson would be worth a Max contract??

Redd is set to make more than most All-Stars.....he's a great player, but cmon.....talk about desperate.

And that's part of the reason Marbury should be traded - forget his knees, forget the unbalanced roster, forget his attitude -- 76 Million in 4 years is too much by a long shot. Stats are meaningless when you're playing for an underachieving team that relies on you for nearly all of your offensive production...

But the way it looks, I'm probably the only one that really cares about the horrible money managaing being done by the orginization. The ratio of production: $$$ just doesnt add up, not even if we improve by 10+ games...

That's just my opinion.
DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

This behavior has been rather repetitive and telling of some dangers of the "cap-space is the only way to win" argument that so-called NBA "experts" like Chad Ford love to propagandize fans with.

Historically, have we not seen teams sign guys like Simmons to overpriced contracts, then hope to (sometimes, successfully) ship these players to a team like the Knicks -- when the player predictably fizzles -- for more cap room for which these "low class" teams will end up overpaying for some other player down the line?

This is partially why the cap-room philosophy may be somewhat over-rated. There is no guarantee that things will work out for a team who works to get under the cap...

Ask the Orlando Magic, or Chicago Bulls (until recently) or Utah, (thusfar) or the Hawks or Warriors for that matter (who can't get anyone to sign with them).

HAHAH!!!

Check out what Chad Ford is writing in his article about what the Simmons deal tells us:

The move is the clearest signal yet that the Bucks are serious about competiting for a championship this year.

YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME! It isn't like the Bucks were the Spurs before drafting Duncan #1. Is TJ Ford equal to the impact of David Robinson in his prime??

GIVE US A BREAK!

They should improve, but contend for a championship this year??

HA!

He didn't predict that they would win a championship, he is saying they are making the moves and spending the money that a team with championship aspirations would. And I agree.

sorry chad, but making the play offs isn't the same as competing for a championship. While Bogut is good, no one is expecting him to be the next tim duncan, are they?

I soon expect to see a picture of Chad and Scott Layden in the back of the NY Times Styles section where they show all the new couples.

He didn't predict that they would win a championship, he is saying they are making the moves and spending the money that a team with championship aspirations would. And I agree.

I understand that Ford didn't predict the Bucks to win the championship, but I think most would read his article as stating that Milwakee is trying to contend (not win) the title this year. If one interpreted it as the "clearest signal" that they are interested in even attempting to be a good team -- while I think this is possible --I find it to be less-likely based upon the writing (UNLESS it is poorly written/edited, or DELIBERATELY ambiguous (to create reactions like ours so that Ford gets attention, negative or positive).

If he is saying that this is a sign of a real desire to turn the team around, and intends to be clear he should have written -- or the editors should have left references to -- examples of the Bucks complicity in not contending. Here's what is in the article from the entire paragraphy with the quoted sentence:

The move is the clearest signal yet that the Bucks are serious about competiting for a championship this year. In the past week, they signed the No. 1 pick in the draft, Andrew Bogut, agreed to a six-year, $90 million dollar deal with Michael Redd and began the on the court rehab for point guard T.J. Ford.

Unless he believes that the other moves the Bucks have made, like re-signing Michael Redd or encouraging TJ Ford to get well, shouldn't count as being interested in, or are less significant towards putting a winning product on the floor that can compete for the championship at some point, then I suppose that argument is valid. But that sounds strange.

After examing the article more carefully and knowing Chad's propensity for creating contraversy, I am beginning to think (as I write this) that the article was intentionally written in this manner, so to evoke reactions. Like I stated earlier, if he wanted to be clear with the point you are advocating he is making, (its a sign or wanting to turn the francise around) he could have done a MUCH better job of doing so. Here, I'll do it for him:

While the Bucks have made some significant moves over the past few weeks: signing the #1 pick in this year's draft, Andrew Bogut, re-signing their best player in Michael Redd to a $90 million deal, and beginning on the court rehab with TJ Ford, there has been speculation amoungst many league experts that the Bucks may have not been serious about putting a winning team on the floor. Signing Simmons is the clearest signal yet that the Bucks are serious about competiting for a championship this year.

Agreed, I saw that and laughed my ass off. Chad Ford has his head planted firmly up his own tail pipe. What an idiot.
