42 minutes 17 points 11 rebounds 2 blocks shooting 70%

Im wondering if we are going to spend 5mm a year+ on Jerome James[because he's the only guy we can get unless we do some kind of S+T in all likelihood]

wouldnt it be better to see if we can grab this kid from the Blazers and let him develop? He really seems like he can play and hes only 19. you cant teach 7-3 325

Maybe we can slpit the MLE on Ha, like the Celtics did for Scalbrine 5 yrs 15mm. Its a little risky, but at the going rate for size, it could end up a huge bargain. At worst a serviceable space eater with a soft touch with a smallish contract that can be moved.

We can offer James the other half of the MLE 3 years 9mm with a team option on yr 4 for 4mm with a 1mm $ buyout, assuring him of 10mm over 3.

What do we have that the Blazers would want for him? He's young, so why wouldn't they just keep him to develop with the rest of their young core?

He was a high 2nd round pick last year, and his contract that he signed made him an RFA this year. Im going by the Mark Eaton theory of you cant teach that kind of size. If they get that kid and condition his body over the next two years, he could be something to reckon with. Its all about timing and risk, and the willingness to develop. Obviously he would be a 10-15 m space eating C, but the longer outlook would be to get him much stronger with much better conditioing and advance his skill sets. Like i said you dont teach 7-3 325. the money wed have to offer would have to be reasonable in two ways, reasonable for the risk reward to us, high enough to thwart Portland from matching. You just dont get opportunities to take a risk on a dude that big who ha skills--what exactly do we have to lose there--maybe Jerome James or Antoine Walker? i would sit tight and see what transpires with Swift first, maybe there is a reasonable S+T deal out there for him? But this monster has to get some kind of consideration.

Briggs, whats really good with you and underdeveloped big men? Its like whenever you see a 7 footer that runs the floor you go ga-ga. Its not that serious. I dont think Isiah wants any projects on this team. He wants young players that can contribute immediately.

And it looks like that player might be Steven Hunter. Isiah is said to talk to his agent several times already.

Im telling you this guy has 10* better offensive skills than Hunter who has ZERO. You just dont teach 7-3 325. If you take the time to develop those skills and build top flite strength and conditioning, he could be a really solid bargain. Jerome James is a risk as well, but hsi risk at 30 yars old is whether or not hes going to lay down once he has his contract. Steven Hunter is tough, because his skill sets are so rudimentary and he doesnt have overwhemling physical size to go withhis height. Hunter probably is a better bet than james--I mean James IS the best player, but there are so many risks with james.
I guess you either have to believe in the "you can teach height theory, or you dont to understand what Ims aying" guys who are 7-3 325 with basketball skill, there are probably 5 guys on the planet.

Waiting out Swift right now is what I think IT is doing.

As for Ha, Portland isn't the kind of team to be scared of matching an offer. If they somehow dump Theo Ratliff, Ha would back-up Przybilla.

HA is pretty damn slow. Isiah knows he needs size and a guy like Hunter would do well with the guys he has.

Hunter's strengths are crashing the boards, put backs, running/filling the lane and blocking shots. All things playing uptempo with our guys in an uptempo system he will have plenty of chances to do.

He cant catch the ball, he doesnt pass, isnt bulky, terrible on the block and in the half court.

He's a good cheap fit for us. I think we are talking about a 15-20 mpg backup at center that will allow Frye to play some PF as well.

what guy that big runs fast? Kareem abdul jabbar used to walk up the court score 20 a night and win championships. Jerome James going to win any relay races? Maybe for the Knicks organization as a whole, maybe the best avenue to go is try to get Swift in a ST and attempt to pawn this guy off of Portland. Im looking at it from a long term perspective, he can play now, but what will this kid be in 2-3 years?

I don't doubt Isiah's eyes for talents. If he feels like the kid can flat out ball, he will go after him. Like he said, he needs a shot blocker...

You can't teach his height, yeah. And you have to notice that he is still a teenager. He wouldn't be a bad project to have in the NBDL and hope to see someday as a backup C, but it isn't likely. First, I doubt he is the type of player Isiah is looking. Yeah, he is a tall C that has some potential, but Im not sure Isiah would consider him since he has a soecific vision of the team he wants. Second, with the NBDL, why would Portland trade this young project when its true that size can't be taught. Im sure that if they have evaluated him they will know they will monitor him for the next couple of years to see where he is going. As a project, Im sure they will be more than pleased to send him to the NBDL and wait for him to become something...

I liked his potential since late last season. He's got huge upside, and if he's a RFA, Isiah should go after him. Use the $$$$$ that Dolan saves after buying out Houston. If Ha becomes a legit player in the NBA, Dolan will get big $$$ from ticket sales/merchandising/TV rights from Korean supporters/media. NBA is huge in Korea.
