i'm sorry, but how cool is this:

ATLANTA, Georgia (CNN) -- Six months after it blasted off from Earth, the Deep Impact spacecraft is poised to meet its cosmic fate -- in a hyper-speed smashup with a comet.

Early Monday, NASA scientists will steer a probe about the size of a washing machine directly into the path of a comet about half the size of Manhattan, and watch the two collide.

The impact could yield an explosion equivalent to five tons of TNT and a modest flash in the sky visible from Earth.

Thats awesome marv... I'm a space nut myself and I'm always following things like this (as nerdy as they might be) haha. I saw this the other day on CNN... cool stuff.

The explosion is supposed to take place 10PM West Coast time. Thats pretty late for us on the East Coast. I also read somewhere that it will be visible to the people on the west coast but not very easy for the people on the east coast to see.

Thanks for the heads-up, Marv!

If there are any pics posted when the collision occurs, be sure to post the link. I'd like to see what that explosion looks like.

One of the most important things they are looking for on the interior of the comet is organic life matter. Deep Impact is supposed to chip off a part of Tempel 1. They can then see if they can find anything impressive inside there.

From the article on CNN.com
Scientists believe comets may hold the keys to the birth of the solar system and perhaps to the birth of life.
