According to league sources, the paper reported that McMillan met with the Knicks on Friday. Another source indicated that McMillan will meet with the Blazers this weekend.

This will be the best off-season ever if we get Nate McMillan!

I wasn't aware that he met with us. The rumor was that the Blazers were meeting him and ready to make him an offer. I hope he ends here...

And this is why my rule is 'never assume that certain things aren't in motion just because the media isn't aware of it'. So, ya never know. Anything can happen.

He'd be great for the sort of team the Knicks are putting together. I don't see Larry Brown running the O that's being assembled.

I like Nate. He took a jumpshooting team and actually made them good. Limited play inside although all he really had to work with was Jerome James down low. He preaches defense to his team all of the time. And in my opinion, if you can make a team good on the west coast then you've got to be considered for a job here in the east if the opportunity comes.

I just want our team to get back to the playoffs as a 5,4 or 3rd seed sometime soon. Once this happens I'll feel like we're legit in our quest. Nate may be able to make this happen. I'm sure Larry Brown would, but Nate would probably be the best next to Larry.

As for Lambeer, I don't know about that guy. He was a tough and hardnosed player but I remember there was a time where no one liked Lambeer. Not just because he was a good player, but because he just wasn't well liked. I'd hate for him to come here and start getting pissed off at the media or be in a situation where he and the players clash. What if he's too hard on our young players who need a teacher and someone to help develop them as a player and even emotionally to the degree that they can be solid NBA players. Not saying any of this will happen but I'm just looking at how I remember Lambeer being viewed and the fact that he has never coached in the NBA b4.

Herb may be just the opposite. I don't know how hard he really is on players. Herb seems like a player's coach. Seems like he has always had a good personal relationship with all of the players but sometimes that can work against a coach when it all comes down to strict teaching and no nonsense coaching.

We need a no nonsense coach. Sounds like Larry Brown to me. But if not, I'd go with McMillian. He literally earned his way into the playoffs as a coach. It wasn't handed to him on a silver platter. He got guys to work.

isn't the agent for isiah the same for Nate?

I mean- it would seem if we want him and he's amenable to making $5m or more, it should be easy to wrap up

I think Nate's decision could come down to whether or not he wants to uproot his family.

I think Nate would be a great option for the Knicks and it would dispel the notion that the media likes to make about Isiah controlling all decisions that the head-coach in NY makes. I don't think Isiah would be able to do that to Nate; they are relatively the same age and played against each other for a few years, isn't Nate from Chicago as well? I don't think Nate would come here knowing that he'd have to listen to Isiah tell him what decisions to make. Hopefully Nates our man.

Sonics Give McMillan A Deadline
2nd July, 2005 - 3:28 pm

Tacoma News Tribune - Seattle SuperSonics CEO Wally Walker confirmed Friday that the team has given coach Nate McMillan a deadline of the middle of next week to make a decision about where he wants to coach next season.

McMillan “Mr. Sonic” is entertaining a serious offer from the Portland Trailblazers and is set to visit the organization sometime early next week.

“All I said to him was, ‘If you want to get started earlier than Friday on this, that is OK,’ ” Walker said. “It is in everybody’s interest to move this thing ahead. But I said by next week we need to circle back to see where you are in the hopes that we can get something done between you and the Sonics. We are not talking to other candidates, we are not pursuing anything, we are not making up a list until you come back and we have that discussion.”

On a sidenote, I hate Scott Layden! Look at this from the article:

One player that does interest Thomas is Antoine Walker, the Celtics' power forward whom the Knicks have tried to acquire since Scott Layden was running the club. Three years ago, Boston rejected a deal for Walker that would have included Latrell Sprewell, Michael Sweetney and Charlie Ward.

He really had no clue!

Doesn't look like we are gonna end up with Nate (barring July 4th headline stealing miracle)...look for Herb to be fired by the all star break after a blow out loss too the celtics and the knicks klinging to a 2 game division lead.

Zeke takes over and guides the knicks to a 50 win season and the conference finals.

Hey...You never know (love those lotto commercials)

I wouldn't mind Nate. But I am guessing that Laimbeer is gonna be our guy.
We could be the Dallas Mavs of the East.
